What do you do when food is thrown from the high chair?

My 14mo DD has just decided after eating pretty much everything that she doesn't seem to like much apart from mashed potato! Things she previously loved are flung down without a second thought. Tonight she had 2 roast potatoes and a yoghurt for tea. What do you do when they don't eat the things you give them - do you do something else or let them go without? As DD is my first I have no idea when you need to start mild discipline e.g. saying 'no' when she does this or throws her cup etc on the floor or take things away when she messes about. Thanks!

DD occasionally throws stuff purely for the entertainment value of seeing them fall - generally it's nothing to do with if she likes what's been given or not. We say no, and have done since she started - and she's beginning to learn, although doesn't always stay stopped for long. We don't give her anything different though, just return the food after a decent delay to avoid it seeming like a game.

My bf 12mo DS does this all the time. I've tried not to worry/stress. We tried picnicing outside so he could pick up the food again, so you could try something similar. I've always made sure he eats a fromage frais and some fruit every day.

DS was weighed last month and he hasn't put on any weight since 8mo. Bit of a bummer. I'm now spooning purees into him to avoid him having to undergo tests in two months time if he still hasn't put any weight on...if your DD is gaining OK then I guess don't worry. Perhaps it's just a phase and she's learning about cause and effect - little scientist!
