How to feed without a high chair on holiday?

Sorry this might be just a 'get on with' answer but I wanted to check if anyone has any advice on this in case I'm overlooking something obvious.

We're going to a ski resort with 14 month old DS next week and unsurprisingly it isn't going to be very baby friendly, our apartment doesn't have a high chair and I doubt the cafes and restaurants will either.

Do I just try and feed him in his push chair? I can see it being a nightmare trying to sit him on my lap to feed with food everywhere, but I'm sure we'll work something out, they managed before the days of high chairs after all!

If you just share a plate with him, it should be fine

Phil and Ted do a very good portable chair that you attach to the table. It's called 'me too'. Expensive but might have a good resale value on eBay.

How about something like this?

Or if you have room/want him boasted up a bit this?

Ah they are good ideas thanks, I'll ask around to see if I can borrow off someone.

You can buy travel booster seats from
Mothercare which are good value. Worst case scenario take a scarf out with you and put round babies waist and tie around the chair back which I have done Grin

I've got one of these: Gro-Chair-Harness, and am quite impressed with it - folds up very small and actually quite sturdy.

Beamur · 19/03/2012 18:27

I had one of those fabric ones too - also handy to use when somewhere has a high chair but it's too grotty to use!

MyLittleMiracle · 19/03/2012 18:37

I have been (shock horror, please dont flame me) not my choice, but desperate times.

I have been feeding my son in his pushchair for the last 5 months, cos i am currently staying at my mums. I will be moving in a few weeks, and already have a high chair, but managing okay at the moment, so waiting until i move now. He seems to manage fine, and in fact has not actually had a high chair before!

You'll manage!

Pushchair every time - you don't need any more kit when you are going on a skiing holiday.

Get a fabric on. They roll up and fit in your pocket. It will keep your pushchair clean.
I have one in my nappy bag for when we are out and about.
lots to choose from

Thanks everyone, there are loads of good ideas here - I had no idea these things existed!! That's why I love MN.

Yep, fabric ones are great - even better if you're in a pub with high stools but they work even on regular tables and chairs even if the table is above their normal height. I just hold a plate down now and then for DD to pick something up of.

Also do it on occasion just on my lap - but that's only okay 'cos I tend to eat faster than my meal companions anyway so I don't lose out with the chance to eat.
