So, DS has been BLW'd since 6mo and is now nearly 10mo, he started eating convincingly (and dropping his milk) about a month ago. Realise everyone else seems to be giving their babies yogurt, hummus etc but I'm still cooking the porridge so he can pick it up in lumps. Can anyone inspire me and stop me from panicking about the mess in offering him runnier food now? I know I could spoon it in but went for this approach initially to minimise effort and am not keen for smug looks from my mum saying that was the right way to do it all along.

My ds is 8 months, i did cheat with a bit of purees combine with lots of finger food, the benefit of which is that a strongwilled ds will now take a loaded spoon and feed himself thick yoghurt, etc. Maybe worth a try. I've also read that babies like dips, and you can pass them crudites loaded with hummus etc.
I watch with interest as could do with some ideas, do you have any favourites that your dc liked? We tried slices of omlette tonight which was a great succees, would love some inspiration?

Thanks mrsred. He's busy spreading Greek yogurt mixed with chopped strawberries and apples round his face at the mo- I went back to Gill Rapley after posting and am trying to loosen up a bit.

If your baby likes eggs may I suggest Spanish-ish omlette? A chopped fried onion, small microwaved jacket spud in chunks fried till starting to crisp with a couple of beaten eggs? Finish it off under the grill with a bit of grated cheese. This cuts into chunky fingers when cooled & is enough for the two of us to share for lunch.

pre-loaded spoons work brilliantly for us, although there's still some mess when DD misses her mouth or picks up the spoon from the wrong side... For soup, I just dip fresh bread in it and leave her to it

Thanks for the responses - badgerwife going to have a go with the preloaded spoons and soup.
