Wean at 5 months?

I know you're not officially supposed to, but ds2 is just 5 months, ebf, and was bf every 3-4 hours during the day and twice at night. The last few weeks though he's feeding much more frequently during the day and waking more often at night. He's also super-interested in us eating and watches intently the whole fork-to-mouth thing. Could this mean it's time to start some solids? Or is it still way too early? Ds1 was 7 years ago and I've forgotten everything Confused

The stuff on that link above is good.

If he's hungrier than usual, then the best thing he can have is MORE milk as it's the most calorie dense thing you can give him! Weaning doesn't help with sleep either, you might 'fill him up' with something a bit more solid but it won't have the same calorie or nutritional benefit as milk, and you'll probably find him waking in the night still as he'll still be hungry from not having had enough calories.

I weaned ds at 5 months - well, I gave him a stick of brocolli and he ate it Grin

If your baby can sit up and get food into their mouth then they are probably ready.

Thanks for the replies and brilliant link. I guess my knowledge is outdated as he can't do any of the things mentioned in that link. I'll hold off a bit then. Thanks again.

Started at 5m and he loves his grub, do BLW and he has only turned nose up at butternut squash. His sleep has not improved though despite still breast feeding.
