6 month old refusing purees

We started weaning at about 4.5 months (Big Hungry Baby) on home made purees then switched to Ellas Kitchen as well as mashed banana or avocado. Its been going really well until the past week or so, when I've tried introducing home made veg purees. she's been screaming during feeds and clamping her mouth shut when she's clearly hungry. So I've taken to tricking her, loading the spoon with whatever she's having and tiny bit of Ellas kitchen on the tip to encourage her to eat. And even then she's eating a quarter of what she was. Yesterday all she ate was a little baby rice. I'm just a it concerned a) she's not getting enough variety and b) She'll be eating Ellas pouches till she's 30! Confused Any ideas? I'm at my wits end!

I made that mistake and I think its quite common, I made up loads of home made purees and meals and once she had some ellas kitchen or similar she refused mine, I think its because we can never make it as finely pureed as the pouches.

What I did was to continue with shop bought, (hipp organic jars are so much cheaper and just as good - pouches for out and about only), and started to introduce finger foods, once she was used to finger foods she was happy to eat my purees as she was more used to different consistencies.

good luck

at 6 months your little one does not really need to have puree and could manage finger foods instead. have you thought of baby led weaning? takes alot of the stress out

Have you tried letting her have a go at feeding herself with the spoon?

We started DS on purees a week or two ago, but he wouldn't let us put the spoon in his mouth very often.

But if we load the spoon with puree and give it to him, he has a go at putting it in his mouth himself.

Admittedly, a lot's getting on his face and clothes and highchair, but he's still eating more when he has the spoon than when we try to stuff the spoon in his mouth ourselves.

My ds goes through phases where he insists on feeding himself, then he insists on being spoon fed. I would give her finger foods and see if she wants to feed herself.
