4MO How Much Food??

My 4MO DD has been having solids (home made) since about 12weeks and I'm wondering, how much solid should she be having??

I give her 2 defrosted ice cubes of veg puree after her bath at night and sometimes a bit of yoghurt in the morning. Should I have her on a schedule now?

Should I be giving her water too? She's BF exclusively inbetween solids.

Weaning is all SO confusing!

dairy isnt recommended before 6 months so I wouldnt be giving yoghurt. She doesnt really need food at this age so I'd keep amounts small until she is 6 months at which point you can add in meat, dairy, gluten, etc

Before 6mo, they don't actually need solids. So 2 ice cubes is fine. If I were to tweak your routine, I'll also move tea to be before bath. Most people use bath as part of a bed routine, so it's kind of strange to have a big dinner after you bath.

Also like Seona says, you aren't supposed to give dairy before 6mo. Same with gluten, fish, meat etc. If you want to give a breakfast, you can have a look at baby cereals. They are all low allergen food suitable from 4mo.

I assume you sought professional advice before weaning at 12w - the youngest recommended age is about 17w so I assume there was a reason for you doing it earlier?

As such, in your shoes I'd be speaking to my Health Visitor for advice as most people now wait until 6mo (medical reasons or advice from a paediatrician excepted) :)

And I don't mean that shittily or passive aggressively either - it's genuinely meant!

Flisspaps - My daughter is 17lb 9oz, the average weight for her age is 13-14lb. She's a BIG girl who wouldn't sleep and was constantly hungry. She'd guzzle milk but her tummy was SO full she'd spit it back up as there was no more room for it! And STILL be hungry.
She wouldn't settle at all and so we gave her baby rice which settled her and she slept! :)

Sorry, I don't think you'll find many people here willing to advise on non-medically advised early weaning.

Your HV or GP is best equipped to advise.

Krissie my DS is 19lb and 17 weeks. He's a hungry baby too. He has 5 bottles of 9oz formula a day and about 4 spoons of baby porridge twice a day (HV recommended) I just give him some before his second bottle and before his forth. Not enough so that he doesn't finish all his milk mind... I second that you get advice from your HV or GP first though.. HTH

My DS was well past the percentile guides for weight and gobbled 5 times more than the recommended baby rice quantity in one feed while I started weaning at 4 months. This was not a conscious plan of action...or a weaning research project Wink I was certain that I would wait till 6 months. But then my peaceful baby starting waking up hungry. Bring irritable and trying to eat anything he could reach.

Baby rice, home made rice with BM, I fed him and he guzzled it. Nothing more complicated than that. I kept up the bf too.
When they are full they stop, don't push the last bit in, if the mouth is being opened and the spoon is being followed...yes go ahead.

If you want to ask hv and get guidance in recommended diet then it will be perhaps more useful. I went by gut instinct based on what I knew of DS, his size, and what my mother advised me.
