Just being nosey and wondering how many of you waited until 6 months and how many weeks those who didn't weaned at... I have a vested interest with a DD fast approaching this stage.

DD wasn't ready till 27 weeks.

DS is 26 weeks and we've just started.

4madboys · 29/02/2012 20:36

i waited till 6mths with all 5 of mine, they range in age from 12yrs down to 14mths, some of them werent interested in food till nearer 8mths tbh, we did a combination of mash and blw :)

TittyBojangles · 29/02/2012 20:40

25weeks then BLW. Fully recommend.

smaths · 29/02/2012 20:49

Started last week at 25 weeks - feeding mix of home made puree and finger food, she has loved everything we've put her way so far which is great!

lolajane2009 · 04/03/2012 12:35

i didnt wait as son was curious about food and was never satisfied fully by milk. we started at 5 months and he loves his food at 6 months

RitaMorgan · 04/03/2012 12:38

22/23 weeks-ish, BLW. I reasoned if he could feed himself, he was ready.

SparkySparrow · 04/03/2012 12:41

17 weeks. I know it was early but milk just wasn't doing the job.

17 weeks after DS plunged into a nectarine I was eatingGrin. He coped with ot fine and he only had a few different things initially. Gave more finger foods etc as he got older so did a bit of BLW and a bit of purees etc. I'd read up on it and it was clear to me that he was ready, such a hungry baby! He's nearly 2 now and I have problems getting him to eat. Not fussy, just not interested.

HappyAsASandboy · 04/03/2012 13:06

6 months here, though DS did suck on a chocolate chip cookie he found at 4 months ish Blush I don't count that as weaning though - it was just a particularly tasty toy to suck Blush

featherbag · 04/03/2012 19:23

DS is 22 weeks today, I'm not 100% sure if he's 'ready' but he doesn't seem satisfied by milk any more and is always trying to stuff something in his mouth. Going to try a little baby rice (boo hiss, I know, but it's what we've got to start on) after his bedtime bottle tonight (in about an hour, very late tonight due to inconsiderate PITA MIL - but that's another story), will report back after!

BikeRunSki · 04/03/2012 19:33

Ds, 26 weeks, blw.
Planning to do the same with DD, in a few weeks time.

pettyprudence · 04/03/2012 20:00

Started DS with tiny spoonfuls of cereal at about 19/20 weeks which he wolfed down, but I was really nervous and not ready yet! Switched to a combo of mush and BLW at 21/22 weeks with very soft finger foods which he quite happily chomped on

blackoutthesun · 04/03/2012 20:02

16 weeks, advice from pead and gp

sheeplikessleep · 04/03/2012 20:03

25 weeks with DS1 - puree
26 weeks with DS2 - BLW

featherbag · 04/03/2012 20:39

Well that was a hit! Forgot to mention DS was prem, and the guidelines are different, 22 weeks is considered absolutely fine to start weaning slowly on puree. Only gave him 2 spoonfuls rice mixed with 20 spoonfuls formula, but he's wolfed it down, even trying to get hold of the spoon to shovel it in faster! Have resisted the temptation to give him more tonight, will stay on 2-3 spoonfuls for a few days until I'm sure and comfortable moving on.

musttidyupmusttidyup · 04/03/2012 20:44

Ds1 20 wks DS2. 15 wks (shhhhh don't tell it was just a bit of baby rice and it saved my life Smile dd 19 wks.
Think you know when time is right. Knew milk was not enough and wasnt prepared to let them feel hungry Sad

Sittinginthesun · 04/03/2012 20:52

DS1 was 20 weeks - he was literally drooling when he watched us eat, trying to grab food off my plate. I was having to eat in secret, because he was so upset! He is eight now, and food is still very important to him. He reckons he might be a restaurant critic when he grows up.

Youngest was 6 months, very gradual, and more or less BLW (although I'd never heard of it), as he always wanted to feed himself like his big brother.

Upside · 04/03/2012 23:49

22 weeks, mix puree and BLW, he was ready and grabbing the spoon from me to feed himself from day 1! I have heard the whole gut not sealed thing, but I remain to be convinced...

Mjtay · 05/03/2012 08:51

Ahhhhhh he sounds like how my DD reacted! Loved it!! She was 19/20 weeks. But just had rice for 2 weeks as in my eyes seemed quite gentle on her tummy. Then introduced baby porridge, then banana. Last few weeks since 5 months. Have started on purees fruit and veg xxx

HettyKett · 05/03/2012 09:14

Both DC at 25/26 weeks - BLW. They loved it.

LiamsMummyJaz · 05/03/2012 09:30

17 weeks. He loves his rusk!

BrianButterfield · 05/03/2012 14:46

24 weeks - BLW. Sat up, grabbed the spoonful of porridge and fed himself from the first meal and never looked back!

crochetcircle · 05/03/2012 14:56

24 weeks, just one type of vegetable as finger food and purée for one meal a day until 26 weeks for dinner, then went into porridge with yoghurt for breakfast at 26 weeks.

Follow your instinct once you have read all the guidance.
