6 months = how many weeks? (Or...when do I start weaning?)

Is 6 months the same as 26 weeks? I realise this is probably a daft question. I'm trying to figure out when I'm likely to start weaning my DD as I'm trying to plan around a holiday.

This is DC2 so I should know what I'm doing but clearly don't...

I think the guideline is 26 weeks but thats only a few days less than in 6 calendar months.

I saw my hv when my dd was 25 weeks she advised that the 26 week thing was not set in stone. Starting a week earlier or later is not going to make a big difference as long as your dc is ready and don't introduce meat and dairy til after 6 months.

In the end I waited til 27 weeks as there was too much going on at home the previous week.

If it was me I'd wait til after the holiday if it is going to be when your dc is 26 weeks. I'd rather not have the extra work to do, and I would be worried if I was doing the right thing :)

If baby can sit up in a highchair without slumping/sliding down, they can pick up food (e.g. a section of a banana or a carrot baton), put it in their mouth and swallow the bit they have chewed/gnawed off - then they are ready.

If they slide to one side in the highchair within seconds, they can't pick up food or put it in their mouth without pushing it back out again with their tongue - then they aren't ready.

This holds true if they are 22w or 32w.
