Right DS1 was terrible at weaning and choked twice it was terrifying and although I knew exactly what to do (the baby first aid course is brilliant btw) and he is fine and is a good eater at 20m.
I am terrified with weaning DS2 who is nearly 7 months and dairy free- I'm getting no support with this should I be? Should I just give formula or can I put oat milk on cereal?
He sits well now and is showing a lot more interest in food than he was at 26 weeks.
So I think it's time we start BLW and I need to conquer my fears.
I have the read the book and read the threads and the website but I still feel like I have no idea what I'm doing!

To start should I roast a sweet potato de skin it and give him a long chunky wedge/stick?
Meat looks frightening its stringy should that be long chunky stick like?

I am having such a confidence crisis with this!

Help please!

The sweet potato sounds like a great place to start. When you start out just go for stuff that is nice and soft, so that even if DS bites off a big chunk, it'll be soft enough to not make him choke. Soon enough he'll learn to chew so you can go for other stuff too. Good luck, I am finding BLW a lot of fun!

Hi prolific,

Sweet potato is great! Think my 9.5mo might b turning a bit orange.... I peel it and chop it into batons and roast with a wee bit of olive oil. Takes about 15 mins at 180. If they are still to firm just leave them in a bit longer.
Anabel karmel has a good recipes for meat. Lots of her chicken ideas are good finger foods.
I bought fish fingers (shame on me), as i wanted my DS to have more fish in his diet.
I was a bit nervous about fruit....i find pears and peaches are great whole. I eat the skin off and give it to him. He loves it!! Hold it in both hands and has a good chomp on it.
Happy eating Smile

I found roasted carrot, sweet potato, parsnip and peppers all good starter foods. As previous poster put, little olive oil and bung in oven.

And apple & melon with skin on has been good for dd to "practice" eating, eg picking up, dropping, coordination etc without being too messy. And they've been good for her to gnaw on due to teething
