Purees and away from home

I've just started weaning my baby and would be interested to hear how people manage when going away for the weekend. I'm feeding him purees at the moment rather than BLW and am just wondering whether it is possible to take the frozen purees, say in a coolbag, then put them in the fridge when we get there and use them over the next 48 hours or is that too long to keep them? I have made some of the purees with milk so I'm not sure how long they can be stored once defrosted. We are away at a couple of places where it would be a bit impractical to bring along a blender etc so I would be grateful to hear your ideas/methods for dealing with this. Thank you.

How old? you could take ready meals with you plus porridge for breakfast and a carton of ready made formula.
You could also mash up your own meals or bits of them - at 6 months it doesnt have to be super smooth anyway. I used a fork to mush his food when DS was weaning at 6 months.

I'm a BLWer but give the occasional pouch eg ella's kitchen. they are very handy for holidays ect.
also avocados can be folk mashed really smooth quite quickly.

As hazchem says - As long as you get the good ones the hipp organic and ellas kitchen purees are very good. The pouches are much easier to heat in a pot of boiling water although the hipp glass jars are half the price.

You could also bring porridge to mix with formula or BM.

Thank you for the replies. He is only 20 weeks and won't eat anything at the moment unless it's completely smooth. I wasn't planning to start solids just yet but gave him a taster while I was preparing a batch and he gobbled it down! I'm a bit reluctant to use the pouches etc as I've heard from friends that once babies get a taste for them, they stop wanting to eat mummy's lovingly prepared food any more!! But maybe it would be ok for a couple of days? So, do I take it that it's not really possible to take frozen purees and use them over the next 48h if stored in the fridge? Or maybe it's best to just stick with milk and baby rice for the weekend at this age/stage? Thanks.

You could just stick to the baby rice, with some fruit puree from a pouch to give it some taste.

I do agree it can stop babies from wanting mums lovingly prepared purees, thats what happened to us, but we just bought them for a while and then did finger food.

We relied on baby porrige. Just add boiling water so it's sterile and then stir until cool (took a minute if I remember correctly).

Kept a packet some clean spoons and bowls and a travel kettle in the car so we could make it anywhere - was great when a puree spilt or we got delayed somewhere.

Not advertising but the Aptamil was the easiest to make smooth and the nutritional value was decent enough for it to be a stand alone feed if needed(don't bother with the nestle sugar based rubbish).
