Rice cakes

On quite a few of the threads about weaning I've seen rice cakes mentioned as a good finder food.

Sorry to be a bit dense but do they need to be the special baby ones, or can I use normal ones?

Oh, and any other finger food suggestions welcome! We're kind of stuck on toast and veg sticks

I bought ordinary but organic ones, as they seemed to have the least added crap.

Erm- breadsticks, those Swedish crisproll things, Ryvita? Have you tried bananas, cutting the peel down to make an ice cream cone-style holder (IYSWIM) so they're not too slippery?

Thanks Fetchez I'll try organic ones - I do get rice cakes anyway but they're lightly salted so will need to change. Haven't tried that with banana, she does like them but they tend to fly everywhere!

I bought normal unsalted rice cakes for LO - he has them broken up and dipped in fruit puree or with banana on etc. He also likes just chewing them when he is teething. For actually eating them he has the apple flavoured ones for babies.

We got normal (salt free) ricecakes, the Tescos ones seem also to be organic We cut them into sticks with a sharp knife. Have learned that also works with weetabix too, although there is a bit of shrapnel. Started giving DS finger shaped sandwiches too, he breaks them up but some does go in.
