was wondering if its ok to use herbs and spices in purees (nothing hot obviously) need to get dd eating veg and was thinking of adding some sweet herbs to it to encourage her

Absolutely fine, I'd say.

How old is your dd?

My DS1 always liked garlic, so I would add roasted garlic puree. And DS2 has always been mad for spicy, so I wouldn't say "nothing hot" was an obvious requirement ...

she's 6.5 months, but its becoming harder and harder to get her to take any veg, mixed butternut squash with pear yesterday and she was ok with that, initially she was ok eating carrot/turnip etc but our dietician has insisted she has custards/creams/jam basically anything with lots of calories to fatten her up

Um, to fatten up a baby, I'd be giving bananas, avocadoes, lots of olive oil. Custard and jam will just put her off all savoury food, won't it? (Hasn't it?)

And anyway, at 6.5 months, her main source of calories should still be breast milk or formula, shouldn't it? That's the case to a year, from what I know ...

VeniVidiVickiQV · 20/01/2006 11:59

Try putting double cream mixed in with veg to fatten her up.

NotQuiteCockney · 20/01/2006 12:01

Oooh, yes, that's the sort of thing, QV!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 20/01/2006 12:05

And plain yoghurt mixed with fruit purees.

NotQuiteCockney · 20/01/2006 12:14

Rachels do plain greek yogurt that is 10% fat. You could even add some cream to it.

shellybelly · 20/01/2006 12:22

thanks for the ideas never thought to put double cream with veg

OP posts:
VeniVidiVickiQV · 20/01/2006 12:27

Neither did i til day before yesterday when DS refused fruit purees again. I didnt want to put sugar in it to take away the tartness so i put some cream in. You see the jars with creamed porridge, creamed this etc. So i thought why not!

He ate it

Hope it works for you.

springerspaniel · 20/01/2006 13:04

My LO eats veg better with grated cheese in it. Basically anything naughty for us is nice for babies as long as you stick to the 'rules' of salt, sugar, etc.

springerspaniel · 20/01/2006 13:05

VeniVidiVickiQV - I introduced my LO to the delights of double cream today. Big success.

chocolateshoes · 20/01/2006 14:13

my ds (6mths) has had garlic, chopped parsley, coriander & basil (nice & sweet), plus he loved a veggie curry with garam masala!!!!! Will get him down the local Indian in no time!

fredly · 20/01/2006 15:15

my dd loves dill on her fish, garlic in almost everything, basil in her tomato sauce and parsley in also almost anything! Herbs are good for you.

shellybelly · 20/01/2006 15:26

how does this sound? carrot/sweet pot with cream and cinnamin (i have some pureed chicken and am thicking about adding that or does it sound like a horrible mixture})

OP posts:
VeniVidiVickiQV · 20/01/2006 15:56

Babies tastebuds are different to toddlers, children and adults so will probably like that mixture!

Glad the cream is a big hit - its certainly working for us

donaldduck · 29/01/2006 21:17

Is it OK to use dried herbs?

lunarx · 29/01/2006 21:56
