tummy bug or blueberries

dd (24 weeks)been on solids (pureed fruit/veg/baby rice) once a day for about 2-3 weeks...taking it slow since not taking in enough milk / day (only 20ozs..)...

anyway tried blueberry and apple puree yesterday and today had 4 dirty nappies so far (decreasing amounts) and they have been dark green...almost black.......could this be the blueberry ????

or is this a tummy bug????

Not a bug, would be my first opinion. A bug would be more likely to be yellow and very watery. Green or black poo is more likely to be a digestion thing, perhaps blueberries are a bit strong for her tummy still.

blueberries will make poo v v dark indeed

moschops · 19/01/2006 09:13

my ds likes his apple and blueberry breakfast and it always gives him funny coloured poo..........

donnie · 19/01/2006 09:28

I would definitely say it's the blueberries - not a tummy problem.

NotQuiteCockney · 19/01/2006 09:29

Blueberries are really quite fibrous for this age - all those skins. I agree with everyone, this isn't a bug.

thanks for comments, however

today still poo in every na[[y but now the colour of yesterdays sweet potato!

she's well in her self but not sure if there is something wrong with this much movement??? always after milk or food, no movement overnight or this morning just started as soon as she had her first bit of 'food' today...

should i stop the food for now and wait a few weeks? is this a sign of her digestive system not being ready??

could it be that i change her too quick and she's just not 'finished'

IIRC all my children's poos underwent a bit of a change when they started solids and it took a few months for it to settle into the norm. I think this may be par for the course. Is it the colour that is bothering you more, or the increased quantity?

forevermore · 19/01/2006 19:28

increased quantity is my worry mainly

colour seems to represent the food so not too bothered about that, just not sure if she could lose weight/become dehydrated as a consequence??

Well you are meant to offer water once they are on solids as I am sure you know, but mine never really drank it in the early days. Was your dd breast fed before weaning? My understanding is that breastfed babies often don't poo much because the milk is so well designed for them there is little wastage, but solid food results in more waste.

It isn't easy to generalise as one of my babies pooed after every feed when breastfed and another pooed about once a week, or at most once every other day. If yours was an infrequent poo-er, perhaps you are just noticing the increased amount of wastage.

If you offer water and she doesn't drink it, I think you can reasonably assume she is not dehydrating. Again, are you still breastfeeding?

Only breastfed till 10 weeks, then formula and she was usually every other day...thinking about what you said i think this is probably just a phase whilst body adjusts...

thinking maybe giving too much solids at one go, she has only one meal a day but looking at other posts its maybe too big a quantity........and i should give smaller quantites twice a day....

concious that its mean't to be just a 'taster' at this stage.
