6mo DS has got his tongue-thrust reflex back!!

This is making me tear my hair out with frustration.

DP and I started DS on one meal a day (either blended or a baby jar) when he was around 4.5 months old. He loved it. Couldn't get enough of it!

Three weeks ago we started him on breakfast. He loved it. Couldn't get enough of it.

One week ago........it begins

Every time I approach him with a spoon, regardless of the noises I make or the way I do it, he will open his mouth and then just as the spoon touches his lip the tongue will go straight out and block me from getting any food it whatsoever.

On the occasions I manage to get food into his mouth, 3 times out of 5 he will poke his tongue out and leave it out until most of the food is all over him, his babygro, his bib, his high chair and my clothes, and then swallow a teeny tiny bit of it.

I don't get why he has regressed all of a sudden! Someone, for the love of Christ... HELP!

I have no words of wisdom, but share your pain! DS at 7 months hasn't ever really lost his tounge thrust and whilst wanting to eat both mashed food on spoons and self-fed finger food, it seems tis a frustrating struggle and he gets so cross when his tounge gets in the way!

He also doesn't do bottles in the daytime anymore taking 3oz or less before that pesky tounge pushes it away. We dreamfeed twice a night to get calories into him!

Watching with interest and crossing fingers its just a phase for both our DC's :)

Baby Goo is a bossy sod, she will shove the stuff in if you let her do it, otherwise she'll spit it out.

Empty the dish on to the tray of the high chair and see what happens.

It's not a reflux, he's taking charge! Grin

Agree with nagoo you couldn't gain back the tongue thrust reflex. Just keep trying with both the spoon and finger foods. Don't force the issue and one day he might decide he'd like some solids again.
