Weaning and "getting out and about" - how?

Hi

Dd is 6 months old, was born 1 month early and still can't sit up unaided. I really want to try blw but have been advised to wait until she can sit up. She can sit in a bumbo but slumped a bit :(

She is just starting purees, as she was bf and was showing signs of wanting food. Im happy with how its going, she seems to love everything so far, so Im going to stick with it until I feel comfortable starting the blw, which I hope she will take to just as well.

I was just wondering how mums were "doing" weaning when out and about. Its so easy to have breastfed when out and about but, if she is on 3 meals a day how would you do this when out if she is only fed in her bouncer? Or would you just breastfeed and miss a meal?

Daft question I know :(

Small pots of food shoved in your handbag with a spoon & some wet wipes Smile. Can you just sit her on your knee to feed her?

You know how everyone is always going on about the wonderful Antilop high chair and it's super inflatable cushion? Some dedicated types take their inflatable cushion (or a spare) out and about with them. I tended to try and prop dd up with a coat, or sit her on my knee, as that's a bit organized for me.

I stuck to the same daily routine when at home or out and about and timed things around meals which were at 7/8 ish, 12 and 5. If I thought I'd be out and about at 12 I'd bring lunch with me and make sure I was somewhere DD could eat. I remember being at chinese new year and feeding DD1 left over roast dinner with her sitting in her pram put to the seated position. I'm a stickler for routine so early on I would always make sure she had a "meal" at either breakfast, lunch or dinner, even if that "meal" only consisted of a couple of spoons of mushed veg followed by a proper milk feed.
I didn't do purees or BLW with my 2 DDs, just a combination of mushed with a fork food and soft hand held foods e.g. veg batons in the early days.

well you could feed her on you knee or do you use a pushchair? does the seat recline so its a similar angle to the bouncy chair, if so you could feed her in that?

the ellas pouches (and there is another make that do them) are good as you can just squeeze it out of the pouch onto the spoon and then screwl id back on when done and can save the rest if she doesnt want it all. but int he early days/weeks i would sometimes miss a meal particularly if baby wasnt showing signs of really wanting it, bfeeding will still be her main source of nutrition so missing the odd meal of 'solids' wont hurt, and i imagine in the next month or so she will be better at sitting up and can go in a highchair. my dd was a bit later sitting up well and i used to put her in the highchair and then stuff a blanket behind/around her if she needed a bit of extra support :)

I would agree with the last post., my DS is 7 months and now on three good meals. We are often out and about and I usually feed him in his pushchair if there isn't a suitable high chair. I take out a little lunchbox with us with his food in. Whatever he has for his tea I will purposely make too much so he can have that for lunch the next day. Beware though, lots of places are really anal about heating up food for babies. They will only give you a bowl of hot water and it doesn't warm it all!!! Now I try to take stuff I don't have to heat or take it already warm in a little flask. Hope that helps Smile
