Does weaning help possetting/puking get better? Throw me a bone.

DS is a puker. I thought he was getting better but yesterday and today were both three muslin days. I no longer change clothes (his or mine) because they're a bit sicky, they need to be pretty damp. It is beyond tedious.

Anyway, he's nearly 25 weeks, so we'll be starting weaning in the next week or so. I just need to know - is this going to help with the near-constant (it seems) puking or am I going to be dealing with actual sick from now on?

DS was really sicky when he was younger, weaning really helped a lot.

Hopefully you'll find the same. He's 14 months now and has only puked through illness in the past 5/6 months.

I dream of 3 muslin days! I use a bath towel when I feed dd due to the sheer quantity of projectile puke she can do.
Sorry that's not answering your question, I'll be watching this thread with interest as I really hope weaning will solve the problem!

Oh hazelnut, it's rubbish isn't it?

Thanks tiger - bumping for more!

My 6mo has been bringing up milk all her life. Even throwing up breastmilk over my boob before she's even finished! We started weaning last Sat and I did have one episode of proper puke smelling vomit (in a lift no less!) after some carrot on the first day but we haven't had any mega waterfalls this week, just a few possets here and there (I know I am going to speak too soon......)

mistressploppy · 12/01/2012 19:13

It stopped magically when we weaned DS. He was on Gaviscon with every breastfeed and as soon as he started eating solids the puke vanished. It was brilliant Smile

Yes weaning solved the problem with both my DDs - they can't eat as quickly as they drink and don't eat as much as they drink. It's such a joy to be able to stop the muslins!

This is awesome news, thanks Grin

Yes, weaning stopped the puke here too Grin Took about 2 weeks after starting solids I think.

Of course when they do vomit post weaning .... You get solids back [eeuuchk] There have been illness-induced-vomit-days when I'd have traded you for your pukey milk-fed baby .....

Weaning didnt stop my little spew machine Sad. Proper spew is nasty although he is almost 9MO now and it is happening less!!!

I've used a thickener in his milk from a young age as he was bringing up so much. The HV's were lovely but kept telling me some babies are "sicky". When i ask them about it the said "oh we used to use that". I'm continuing to use it at the moment in his bottles as he just doesnt seem to keep fluids down. It's made by cow and gate its called Carobel, can get it on prescription and its all natural stuff.

I'm hoping that crawling stops the puking once and for all as he's almost there... Smile

My DD was awful, very sick and she had reflux too so we ended up seeing pediatrician. They advised early weaning, I think we started at around 3.5/4months. It really helped, she was much better and got some sick but no way near as much. She's now 2 and eats pretty much everything. Found the reflux/sicking stopped when she started moving more, particularly cruising as gravity helped.

ABigGirlDoneItAndRanAway · 15/01/2012 19:10

I'm not sure how much was down to weaning and how much was down to just outgrowing it, my DD was a puker but had grown out of this by 6 months, we had not long started to wean her but she was still getting a few milk feeds and kept them down.

lucy101 · 16/01/2012 21:44

My DS had reflux and the posseting etc. gradually decreased over time. He is now 10 months and it only happens every couple of days maybe.

Jakeyblueblue · 20/01/2012 23:02

My ds was really sicky and weaning has almost stopped it completely! Grin

Hi - like ABabyGirl I'm not sure how much was down to weaning and how much due to a bigger and more mature gut, and lots more time upright. But it got better.
