Hi,
My baby is Lasctose intolerant,( or so we preseume as she screamed for the first three months and as soon as she was put on Pepti milk she stopped) she is now five months old and watches you intentley when you eat, I have tried to wean her with baby rice but every time I have tried she has screamed that evening after the feed, I tried fruit puree and she cried all evening, I wondered if any one else had had this, I feel like I have lived at the doctors for months now getting the milk right, I dont want to waste their time if its just perserverance >

She's only 5 months and I assume she watches you intently doing the laundry too? Does she have all 3 signs of readiness in your birth to 5 book? They are sitting unaided, aiming food into their mouths and swallowing. Things like baby rice and root veg (carrot, squash, sweet potato etc) are not very common as an allergen. I am guessing her gut isn't ready for the food yet? Do you have access to a paediatrician?

Agree with One watching you eat is not a sign that they are ready in itself and it sounds like her gut just isn't ready yet for solid food. The link above is good and MN has a useful section on weaning too.

Also agree that you need to see a Paed, if she has a milk intolerance you need a proper test to confirm the diagnosis and specialist advice.

As for weaning, if you think she has allergies or an intolerance I'd wait until you've seen a Paed before you decide to wean or at least wait until 26 weeks as early weaning can be a contributing factor in some allergies.

When you do want to wean, it might be useful to see if your local library has a dairy free or vegan cookbook for some inspiration. There are some vegan and dairy free recipes on BBC Food too.

Oh and nearly forgot, all the major supermarkets have lists of dairy free foods that they stock, I think you just need to ask as Customer Services.
