6 month dd vomits with solids -gag reflex?

We've just started solids and gave given dd a spoon with butternut squash on. Each time any actually goes down her throat she vomits. Should we leave it for a while, persevere, or just do finger foods? Have not had this before-dd 1 took spoon feeding just before six months. Ds refused all spoons and finger fed from the off!

Mole I'd leave it a week and then try her again with finger foods. Some babies just don't get on with spoon feeding as you know Smile.

She'll be learning how far to put food into her mouth and where the gag reflex is triggered.

What about trying without a spoon? It's not really necessary (as you know from DS!) and knowing where her hand is rather than having to guess how far into her mouth the spoon is might help IYSWIM

she might just be a gagger for a while yet, which is actually a bit of a pita... agree with you that the best thing might be finger foods so at least she is totally in control of how far back everything goes while her gag reflex is on the move.

ThanksSmile. I think we'll ditch the spoons and wait a week or so. I think giving her one without food to play with might have been a bit silly - she wasn't expecting the food Blush. Will dust off high chair and put some stuff on there to play with when we eat. I think you're right-control is the thing. Dd1 was so keen on her food that I think she worked out that someone else with the spoon would get it in more quickly! Ds didn't want anyone else in charge thank you very much! Maybe dd2 is getting ready and is more like ds than dd1. Really appreciate the advice-third time through and it still all feels new!

Hi

How are you getting on with it? My first took to food like a duck to water but my second wont let a spoon in her mouth but will suck on bread etc or anything off my finger. Am totally confused on where to go from here so would appreciate some advice coz 1st was sooooo easy :-) Thanks

Hi gemsy-no spoons since last post but she did have a bit of pancake to chew on this morning! Seemed to enjoy it but don't think it went down! Going to take the finger food route I think-nice thick porridge Wink. Basically not try purées for a while and just let her have what we're having to try. At least it'll be low maintenance!

You could try sloppier stuff with bread/toast/rice cake as dippers. Friend was doing that the other day when I was there for lunch
