then I can decide if I would ever do it again or whether I should feel supremely guilty about having already done it.

Ok I just fed my 9 month old half a whizzed up can of ravioli!!!
My hubbys car broke yesterday and he took mine this morning, I forgot to ask my mil to get some food in and I had nothing else that I could sort out extra quick when I suddenly realised that the baby was trying to eat her own arm. How bad is this?????????????????

As a one off, it's fine. Better than starving!

(but not good on a regular basis because of the salt...)

kalex · 13/01/2006 16:56

On the grand scale of life, not a biggie, however I personally would be worried about salt content etc, and would only do it in dire circumstances, far better a fed baby, than a baby with only one arm, as had chewed the other one off

Snap Soupy

Furball · 13/01/2006 16:58

I wouldn't worry about it - you're not doing it for everymeal. I'd check the ingredients and salt levels and if they weren't too bad, perhaps they could have it every so often.

mogwai · 13/01/2006 19:59

For goodness sake!

It's just a can of Ravioli.

Am I the only person thinking this?

flutterbee · 13/01/2006 20:00

I'm thinking that too mogwai.

flutterbee · 13/01/2006 20:00

I'm thinking that too mogwai.

flutterbee · 13/01/2006 20:01

I'm obviously thinking it twice as much as you

snafu · 13/01/2006 20:03

Don't sweat it. Obviously not something you would do regularly but as an emergency one-off it's not exactly the end of the world (although tinned ravioli just reminds me of school dinners anyway so... yuck )

stitch · 13/01/2006 20:03

for goodness sake, its food isnt it?

people in other countries look at me strangely when i tell them babies shouldnt have salt. most of us probably erent brought up on a no salt diet.

i fed my 8.5 month old a seekh kebab, only making sure the bits i gave him didnt have any green chillies in it, whilts next to me a woman fed her 8 month old mushy puree.......

saadia · 13/01/2006 21:03

Agree that it's OK as a one-off but people should be aware that too much salt in a very young baby can actually be dangerous.

Aloha · 13/01/2006 21:04

It's fine. Not for every meal, but then organic blooming millet wouldn't be any good for every meal!

sazhig · 14/01/2006 00:22

Wouldn't worry too much - just keep an eye out for allergic reactions & not introduce any new foods for a couple of days just in case. I'd be more worried about your own diet tbh - don't you have any fruit or veg in at all - don't you eat anything???

Hattie05 · 14/01/2006 00:25

I think its bad that you whizzed it up, i'd have given it whole

RachD · 14/01/2006 00:40

You did good, in the circumstances, mum.
Don't punish yorself.
My son, 23 mths LOVES tinned ravioli, and has done since 8 mths.
Don't feel bad.
You are cool.
