Not breast feeding as much in the day but not eating much either

Hullo All. I'm looking for some advice regarding my DS.He will be 12 months in 2 weeks time and is still being breast fed. My concern is that he doesn't eat that much at the best of times and is currently going through a non eating period, ie will take a max of 4 spoons per meal. I know that milk is the most important thing before 1yr but I'm worried that he seems to be dropping the afternoon bf along with reducing his food. At the last weigh in, he is close to dropping from 75 to 50 percentile. And he is pooing every 2 days whereas it used to be daily. He bfs in the early hrs of the morning (6-7am), and again mid afternoon (3-3pm) and then at bedtime (7pm). I worry that he's not getting enough nourishment as sometimes his bedtime feed is cut short as he falls asleep. He does wake up at least 2-3 times in the night but it is mainly comfort feeding. I offer 3 meals a day and 1-2 snacks. Combo of fork mash meals and fingerfoods.he seems to prefer feeding himself but not much goes in.He is eating v little now, probably as he is cutting a tooth but even at his best, he eats moderately. Do I offer him more bfs during the day to maximise his milk intake as he is eating less?

I'd offer bfs through out the day if he's only having 3 bfs a day, if he doesn't want it then he'll refuse.

It might be worthwhile keeping a food diary for a week or two so you can see how much he's eating over the week - you may be surprised.

Mimosa I think you will be surprised how much they take in those night feeds. Have a look at this on reverse cycling.

While I always found the best way for us all to get some sleep was to just feed them at night if they wanted it, there are things you can do to persuade them to take their calories in the day rather than at night. There are some good tips in the link above and [[http://www.askdrsears.com/topics/sleep-problems/night-weaning-12-alternatives-all-night-nurser here too].

Don't worry though, everything you have said sounds perfectly normal, especially if he is teething. Have you tried putting a teething gel like Dentinox on his gums before offering solids or giving him ibruprofen 20 minutes before?

I think La Leche League recommend that once they are one you can start offering bfs after solids, instead of before. So it may be worthwhile giving him another bf after breakfast and one after lunch. You could always offer a snack at the 3pm one with or instead of the bf.
