Apart from honey, is there anything else they can't eat before a year?

I seem to remember shellfish and nuts (for choking risk) are not recommended for st least first year but not sure if that's official

Runny egg yolks.

All my DC had seafood/shellfish by 8/9 months.

from 6 months they can have just about anything except whole nuts (peanut butter ok), honey (botulism risk), soft boiled eggs (yolk and white should be cooked), shark/swordfish/marlin (mercury levels), salty foods, etc. They can have cooked seafood from 6 months too. Whole nuts arent recommended before the age of 5 due to the choking risk.

Different sources seemed to say slightly different things but this is a summary of what I read:

DON?T GIVE

  • cow?s milk until a year old
  • fruit juices until 2 years old
  • salty (bacon, cheese, chips) or sugary (chocolate, cake, biscuits) foods until 2 years old
  • honey until a year old

CHOKING
is more likely with:

  • hard foods
  • foods with bones
  • small round food, like cherry tomatoes and grapes
  • food with skin, like sausages.

If you have a family history of food allergies some sources recommend the following:

9-12 months

Wheat
Oranges and other citrus
Cheese
Yogurt
Soy
Peas and other legumes (except peanuts)
Egg yolk
Corn

12 - 18 months
Cow's milk (including cottage cheese, ice cream)
Pork
Tomatoes

18 - 24 months
Egg whites
Berries

2years
Chocolate

2 - 3 years
Fish & seafood
Nuts (except peanuts)

3 years
Peanuts

nhs guide to foods to avoid

first stage weaning

Where is that guide from as it seems to be bit cautious with its timings of food introduction?

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 05/12/2011 12:55

cows milk is fine from 6 months to use in cooking and food, just not as their main drink. (says elfonthetopshelf who was busy exhausting myself expressing an extra 3oz milk a day for breakfast porridges, oooops, was glad somebody put me straight on that!)
