How many BLW "meals" a day, how soon?

DD will be 7 months in a week or so and is breastfed, feeding every 2-3 hrs during the day and still feeding at night at least twice. We started BLW at 6 months but she's only ever had food once a day (at lunchtime). She had a tummy upset just before we started weaning so I was happy to take it slowly, but a month on and I've never really got any further in terms of meals offered.
She makes a good stab at lunch and def eats some as I see the results in the nappy. But I haven't really managed to get organised in terms of the other meals.
Should I be offering her breakfast and tea too by now?

I went from 1 meal to 3 within a week because my DD loved playing with finger foods. Same as you I can see food in the nappy almost straight away. If your LO loves it, I can't see why you can't go straight 3 meals quickly. The beauty of BLW is she will be controlling the amount she eats anyway isn't it?

What I mean is if your LO is keen definitely offer 3 meals so she can practice. Breakfast can be really easy with just toast and various spreads.

I think when we started DS went straight to 3 "meals" and probably snacks too, mainly because it was impossible to eat in front of him without him grabbing it or getting extremely frustrated trying to. So just every time we were eating he asked (well gestured and whined!) and we gave him some food. They take in such small amounts at first I never saw the point of restricting it to particular times, really.

I'm just being lazy and disorganised. Blush I tend to sit on the sofa for breakfast, rather than in the (cold) dining room where there's no telly the highchair is (no room in the kitchen for it) and haven't sorted out an afternoon slot, although she could sit up at the table then with DS.
I've been a bit sleep deprived and and was going slowly cos of tummy upset, but the time has just drifted on. I've sort of had "food is for fun until they are one" in my head, but maybe I need to up my game a little.

Have you got a bumbo seat? They have a tray so you can both sit in front of the telly with a picnic mat having toasts? Or maybe your 7mo can already have cereals like mini wheats?

I got mine from eBay (pick up) with a tray for a tenner. Well worth it.

BertieBotts · 04/12/2011 22:11

Yeah bumbo would do, or just a floor picnic if she can sit up. Or one of the dining chair booster seats with a tray if you get a sturdy one. When we moved DS had his on the floor for a while, as we had no furniture.

I found raisin/apricot wheats excellent for BLW, softened slightly in milk. DS loved them. Bit messy though.

Three meals a day plus two snacks for my 8mo, the same as me. We eat in the dining room, together for our meals and snacks so she copies me and so we make eye contact and communicate. We eat the same thing so it's no hassle and we both at healthily.
