Poo - sorry if TMI

My DS is almost 7 months and now on three good meals a day. He's always been a pretty heroic poo-er - averaging three a day. Normal day would look like a patty type one first thing, then looser as the day went on.

The last week or so he's seemed very bunged up, although is still going. They're HARD and it seems like a real struggle, sometimes ending in tears. This morning I was actual able to pick his first poo out of his nappy cause it was so formed.

He's been having porridge for brekkie, which I have switched to weetabix, to no avail. Thi morning I gave him mini shredded wheat type ones as they're high in fibre. Lunch and dinner are usual mix of met & veg.

Constipation seems to coincide with me giving him Plum sugar free yoghurts - could that be it? I am also trying to up the fruit he has. But aside from that does anyone have any advice?

Without TMI -what sort of poos do your LO's do?

Thanks in advance

i'd wager it's his breakfast that's doing it
fibre is good, but too much of the wrong type can cause constipation.

weetabix was terrible for giving ds1 constipation, still does and he's 6 now.

that said, it's normal for poo to change to a more solid state once they're weaned and a formed poo is fine. i wouldn't be overly concerned unless it's very, very hard or coming out in little pellets, or getting too large for him to comfortably pass

We have readybrek with some fruit puree (melon is her fave) mixed in to a runnyish consistency. Tasty and helps things move along easily.

thisisyesterday* that's helpful to know, thank you.

February I will try that tomorrow. I've got loads of mixed berried frozen in the freezer but keep on forgetting to put them in his cereal Blush.

Hopefully he'll be OK soon. x

try to change his breakfast to something else. Wheat can be quite difficult to digest and I'd guess 7 months is a bit early for it.

Oats in any shape or form are good - muesli on Plum fromage frais (stear clear of Petit Filous - nasty powdery stuff) or smooth baby cereal (porridge) mixed with warm milk.
Worst case scenario - give him a rehydrated dried prune (just pour boiling water over it and leave a couple of minutes until soft :). Unlikely to cause diarrhea as it's dried (fresh plums might cause an upset), but can really 'speed' things along :)

Are you giving lots of apple? Apparently that can bung LO's up.

I shall be watching this thread as we have the same problem here, my dd (7 months) really struggles to poo, recently she has been straining alot and started to cry so I have had to lay her down and take nappy off and push her knees up to her belly, and then she goes (sorry if TMI) its not too solid, but very much like an adult poo. It seems that with a nappy on there is nowhere for the poo to go.

I have upped her fruit and veg intake, and water intake, but no difference.
