Questions re nearly 9mnth old

Apart from nuts (and junk food), is there anything I shouldn't feed my nearly 9 month old ds?
Can he have pulses?
Can I feed him meals cooked using tinned tomatoes? (I've only ever used fresh ingredients apart from the odd jar)
Is it ok to give bread? (He likes it but I've only given him small amounts as it has salt in it.)
Sorry so many questions - he has suddenly become very fussy and I'm trying to find out what he likes and dislikes.
Thanks.

I fed DS anything that we had at 9 months. I just didnt add sugar/salt on his portions.
Obviously I didnt give him nuts/peanut butter, think thats only thing.
He wasnt keen on bread, but he would eat it toasted.

Salt is less and less of a worry as they get bigger. Obviously, you don't want him eating piles of it, but small amounts are fine. Pulses are fine (but can be constipating, I wouldn't give loads, all of a sudden). Tinned tomatoes are fine.

At this age, they often prefer finger foods. And they often are fussy, it's better to offer a wide range and not be fussed about what he eats, than prepare hand-crafted lovely meals just for him, and have him toss it on the floor.

Personally, I think I gave my kids everything at nine months, except for junk food. I gave nuts, too.

I don't think they can have honey until 12 months

Oh, true. Also, pate and soft cheeses are unwise, unless you're very careful about the source (listeria risk).

Shellfish, chocolate, honey, nuts, sugar & salt, & soft cooked eggs are the biggies that come to my mind. This link might be worth looking at Sai if you are worried about allergies (i.e. are there instances of allergies like hayfever, asthma, excema or food allergies in your families) although it is on the strict side I find it useful as a general guide along with the other link at the top of the page as to what foods are more allergic than others.

FYI - Babies under one are still only supposed to have 1g of salt per day as a maximum so it is still worth being careful and making sure that any food offered has no added salt at all. Babies will get all the salt they need from bm or formula. See this link .

Thanks everyone.
I think you are right NQC - ds is only eating finger foods. He doesn't want anything from a spoon.
He hasn't quite mastered how to feed himself yet so I have to put little chunks of food into his mouth!
Oh, well. I don't mind - they're not babies for long, are they?
I'm sure he'll feed himself when he's ready.
