BF weaning

My ds is 6ms and has started weaning. How do you reduce/stop breast feeding if they don't take a bottle & have been exc. bf? (Will reduce his bf milk when he leads it. At the mo he has milk before every feed am, noon, 3pm - just milk and then tea time).
He has a doidy cup and a tommee tipee, which he has started taking water from during meal times. It's a bit slow and messy at the mo. I'm happy to keep bf, but it's getting more uncomfortable as he's faffing a lot! Any advice?

They do faff at this age. Have you tried feeding in a quiet room? Or when he's sleepy?

One of the nice things about bf is, you don't have to reduce bf as you offer solids, your ds will do that for you. Do you want/need to stop bf?

I don't really want too. Just wondered what happens if they don't take a bottle. I suppose he'll gradually do it naturally when he's ready. He's got a little habit of clamping his lips on me nip at the moment. It really hurts! Of course, he thinks it's hilarious (cast eyes up!). The good thing is, he's got the sniffles at the mo and it's reassuring to give him the busoms as i feel like i can make him feel better in some way - so the benefits are worth the faffing!!

I just kept bfing and offering water in a basic tommee tippee cup. Ds didn't really take to solids in a big way until 9-10mo, about the same time that he got more competent with using the cup by himself.

He faffed at that sort of age, but then calmed down later (and got even faster at feeding ).

Personally, I wouldn't stop now if you don't have to. It's v handy when they're teething and don't fancy solids too.

The other nice thing is that if they skip the bottle and go straight from boob to beaker, then you don't have to go through the hassle of getting them off the bottle!

If he's clamping on for his own amusement, and it's hurting (particularly if he's using his gums, rather than lips), I'd take him off (put finger in mouth first to break latch) and put him down.

Laziness is one of the stronger arguments for bf in my experience. DS2 never really took to purees, went straight from boob to table scraps.

I think, if you need to stop bf at this age, you can move them to a sippy cup with formula. You can start with a sippy cup with EBM, and then mix it with formula, iyswim. Sounds like a lot of work to me, but if you need to work long hours or whatever, it can be necessary.
