My DS is 6 months and we are going to start weaning in the nxt few days. Anyway he has no teeth so can i still give him finger foods or will he not be able too manage it.

Do babies just "gum" at foods? I know it is a silly question as i can't find the answer in my baby book so it must be an obvious thing but he is my first child and i am not very confident about certain things (so i will probably be posting on here more as we get the hang of food).

Thank you for reading.

They can gum most things -- if it's really chewy then probably not, but a remarkable array of foods will yield to a determinedly gumming baby.

Thank you - i was hoping this was the case. I know it seems a silly thing but i was really not sure.

You will learn quickly what's appropriate for your LO. Just give whatever you are eating, cut into finger size and observe him. I found my DD became very dextrious quickly too. Basically just keep adapting. They grow so fast in their first year!

I am discovering that there is a fine line between things that are soft enough to eat and things that are too soft or slippery and get squished by enthusiastic fingers.

I gave some slices of pear with the skin on that had been steamed - ds sucked and gummed at the fruit and the spat out the skin. (And lots more pear!) I was very impressed!
