DD was happily scofifng back the purees and the more lumpy meals, but now refuses ANYTHING that she needs help eating, and anything on a spoon! so I am going finger food way. Easy with veggies and fruits and for carbs been using rice cakes and toast, but need more ideas for proteins other than scrambled egg and cheese! She has no teeth yet so needs to be easy for her to mush up in her mouth.

Thank you!

chicken, beef, lamb?
Anything your eating but not cooked with salt.
meatballs are a favorite here also fish cakes.

Anything you eat, just give her the same.

They don't need teeth - babies manage to do a lot of damage to food with their hard gums.

Even things like bolognese can be picked up with the fingers and put into the mouth!

hazchem with chicken, beef, lamb how do you give it? I am confused as it has to be large enough for her to pick up, but soft enough for her to chew. fishcakes and meatballs good ideas thanks :)

flisspaps yes - a bit worried about giving her exactly what i eat, as sometimes food is too rich. Whilst babies can eat anything other than salt, is there a standard for how much of each food type they should be eating?

Re: meat - Grill or bake it, then cut it into strips. Honestly, you wouldn't believe the grey, soggy mess that a beautifully cooked piece of steak can be reduced to by a set of gums.

As for how much of each kind of food - I don't know. I've not seen anything anywhere that states how much of each group a child should get. There's no reason why babies can't eat rich or spicy foods, and you can always add salt to a meal once it's cooked so that baby doesn't get it. As long as you're eating a balanced diet (and we all know there's room for rich foods in one of those) then you know that's what your baby will be getting too.

If you're stuck for meal ideas, have a look at this site. It's very good :)

Omelette, quiche, pizza-toast, shepherds pie, chicken tikka masalla, anything with beans in it. Is hummous protein??

Second the use of the BLW site. Lots of great ideas there.

Home-made pancakes with different fillings. E.g. breakfast they could be served with fruit and yoghurt, or for dinner it could be vegetables and melted cheese.
