11mo has become fussy with food!

he used to eat ANYTHING, especially fruit. But now he's turning his face away from fruit, ugh. DS1 is so fussy with fruit, so we were delighted when DS2 enjoyed it...

He was ill on and off, so I'm not sure whether he assiciates fruit with throwing up or something. He's been fine for over a week now, tho, so I'd hoped he'd be back to normal.

How do we encourage him back into the great eater he once was? Should we keep trying, OR avoid giving him fresh fruit for a few days then reintroduce it?

Any help would be much appreciated. x

I'm no expert but I would say leave it for a week then offer it back as finger food, so he can choose to eat it or not. Don't encourage him to eat it just see what he does, if he doesn't eat it just take it away and try another day. I think the more you seemed relaxed about it the better.

My DS is BLW and I'm often having to stop myself trying to get him to eat food, he refuses to let me spoon feed him, it's frustrating but you need to hide your inner stress.

Good luck x

I know what you mean re it being frustrating. I dont know why he's suddenly got fussy. He'd eat anything and everything previously. Altho, he's teething, and isnt coping very well with it, which I dont imagine is a pleasant experience. His top gum is purple and bruised :(
I know how crap I feel when I even have an ulcer or inflamed gum.
DS1 sailed thru teething, so this is a bit of a shock to us!

My DS stopped eating when he was teething, to be honest like you say, it would be horrible eating with sore gums. He really didn't cope well (neither did I). We give DS ashtons and parsons powders long with calpol and ibroprofen as they can take these together

I offer my DS cold cucumber/melon/pineapple cut into long sticks at meal times if his teeth are hurting or tomato cut into quarters. I just pop them on his tray and leave him to feed himself (or not).

Try not to stress (very hard) but soon as the pain subsides and he's feeling more himself he will probably start eating again. The main thing is not to make a big deal of it. x
