vitamin content in Ella's kitchen and jar type food

Is there any vitamin content in Ella's kitchen & 'Plum' pouches and jar type food? Just wondering if the processing kills off all the vits?

TIA

It won't be devoid of vitamins. Go and look at the packaging. Or google it.

I find it hard to believe that any of the food in those pouches has any vitamin value at all - because there are no preservatives, they can only have been boiled endlessly and that must destroy most of the 'goodness'?

(I love Ella btw but am surprised when parents justify giving them to older children in the belief that they must have the same goodness as a piece of fruit!)

Paschaelina - there is nothing about vitamins on the packaging which is probably quite telling!?

The contents are not boiled endlessly, the packets are vacuum sealed which should have no impact on the vitamin content.

But surely to ensure that they are safe for young babies you can't vacuum any old mush and it needs to be pretty free from bacteria already? Given that there are no preservatives the only other process is boiling?

I think baby food in jars/pouches etc will be patsurised. This will diminish the nutritional value compared to freshly prepared unpasturised food. Some vitamins are particularly suspecticable to heat. Mineral content won't be affected though.

I'm very interested in the answer to this question and gave been trying to find real scientific information on the Internet on store bought vs homemade without success so far.

I remember reading an article in the paper that the nutritional content was about the same in jars vs homemade, and sometimes even better because it's us mums who are more likely to over boil etc. however, this was before I was interested in weaning so I didn't take notice of the source.

If anyone comes across some real factual info I'd be grateful if you could point me in the right direction.

Thanks Transatlantic City Girl ! - The search for facts continues... I think what someone posted earlier about vitamins and minerals makes sender though. Vitamins are what gets destroyed when we over cook, whereas minerals are less delicate as they are elements in own right - (remembers school chemistry and biology -).. iron for example is an element and pretty tough while vit C is not. But when I get a chance. I'll look online for info. And anyone who finds any, please post!

www.ellaskitchen.com/apples-bananas/ info here - I don't think they have no value as I think pasteurisation and vacuum treatment doesn't get rid of everything but obviously not same as well cooked home food.
