Are the fruity baby cereals really THAT bad?

I have started introducing breakfast and DD does love them which isn't a surprise as they are milky and sweet but how bad are they really?

Prefer to add my own fruit really. DS loves weetabix and porridge with crushed up pear. That way i know the sugar content is natural and not added. I also want my DS to know what proper fruit (and meat and fish etc) look like so i can just peel a banana or give him an apple when he's older rather than buy expensive convenience fruit pots/ fromage frais (except when we're out and about). But that's my choice as we always have fruit in the house for me and DH anyway and i don't think it's that hard to add your own flavour. I'm sure that baby cereals with fruit are fine - they're made with babies in mind after all.

I don't generally see the point in baby cereals anyway. They're expensive and unnecessary. DD had breakfast with us- porridge, eggs, toast, yoghurt, fruit etc from the beginning and she was just joining in the family ritual of breakfast. It's cheaper and makes more sense long term really.

look at the sugar content. Do you really want to be giving your baby something with so much sugar. Ready Brek, Weetabix, toast, porridge, eggs, natural yoghurt, banana etc do the trick just as well and are a lot cheaper.
