Yesterday's apple puree left at room temp for a couple of hours- would you feed to 5.5 month old?

23 week old baby just having first foods.
Made apple sauce yesterday, (stewed sieved apple) and no time to feed it to him, after it sat about at room temp for an hour, so put back in fridge. Got it out again later, let it reach room temp, added rice ceral and expressed BM, no time to feed it to DS so back into fridge.
Got it out this morning, and once again - not able to feed DS so back in the fridge.

Shall I serve it to him in an hour, with some more EBM?

It is just cooked apple, the water they were boiled in, cereal and milk. It's in a dishwasher-washed glass tumbler.

Anyway, safe, or not safe?

Not with rice and breast milk in it, not in and out of the fridge like that, no.

And I'm pretty cavalier about this kind of thing

Miffster · 24/05/2011 21:42

It's rice cereal, not rice, I thought that was pretty safe, it's like tiny bits of rice crispies isn't it? I know reheated rice is dangerous.

In total it has been out of the fridge less than 2 hours, but over 24 hours IYSWIM.

Hmmm.

Making your own baby food is a right pain in the arse, with a baby who doesn't have a nap schedule, despite months of trying...

I probably wouldn't if it's been in and out of the fridge. I probably would though if it had just been out for 2 hours though, so no rhyme nor reason there!

belgo · 25/05/2011 07:56

No, not with the milk in it.

TanteRose · 25/05/2011 08:01

no

starfishmummy · 25/05/2011 08:07

Flisspaps · 25/05/2011 08:33

No.

BLW Wink

vmcd28 · 25/05/2011 11:29

No.
Not sure why you keep taking it out the fridge then dont have time to feed it to him Confused

I have not been able to feed baby or put him down properly for naps or make food while he naps for three days because because sodding workmen sent by the landlord keep appearing to do jobs which means I can't strip off baby and myself and feed it to him on the floor on a shower curtain in open plan condo which is how I am doing it at the moment, because no high chair( have just moved to new place in foreign country). Is incredibly annoying. Have thrown it away and am hoping no bloody workmen turn up today because I can't cope with more interuptions like this, baby is exhausted from not napping and eating properly and so am I.

BLW is going to have to wait 3 weeks, because am not able to cook and clear up having just moved house.

miffster, sounds hellish. PS I didnt mean to sound arsey when I asked - was genuinely just wondering.

If youre not expecting any workmen today, stick a note on the door saying, "Feeding baby - cant come to the door. Please come back in 20 mins" each time you want to feed him, and if you manage to get him down to sleep, swap it for a note saying, "Please do not ring the bell - baby asleep" or something similar. You need to get back on track, so put the ball back in your court. x

That's a great idea - will do! Thanks. :)

Hi miffster, i remember you from the due in dec 2010 thread! Could you take it out of the fridge then add the milk at the last minute? I think just the apple would be fine, its the milk thats the problem. I freeze all my mushed fruit and veg without milk and add the milk just before feeding. Rice cerael sounds fun, haven't come across that. My easiest weaning food is banana, ds has had more banana than anything else, mainly because I only started weaning a week ago but ds has been grabbing at my bananas for ages and have been giving him tasters for a couple of weeks, he used to mouth it and spit it back out, but when he started eating it, and holding it up and knawing it I reckoned he was ready for weaning!

Miffster · 26/05/2011 19:03

LOL, DS ate my pear core today, or started to! How are you LittleB? I must get over to the postnatal thread soon...

Great thanks, having a lovely time with ds who (and I'm biasedWink) is a gorgeous happy little man! I haven't been on the postnatal thread for ages; I can never get on it enough to keep up with it so I'm afraid I've given up, still on musnet though!
