I never made it in the microwave but used to reheat it in there every time. Never used a jar either.

anchovies · 11/11/2005 19:13

Used a microwave to cook and reheat.

Microwaves are perfectly suitable for reheating food but you must leave it to stand for a good minute after to make sure it isn't too hot for the baba

Passionflowerinapeartree · 11/11/2005 20:11

To reheat only

I use it every day to reheat food and bottles

I think I am intelligent enough to stir / shake well and check temperature before giving to baby. Surely you woudl do this after heating food/bottles on the stove??

jstbcs · 11/11/2005 20:20

not about heat, its about what it does to the food... probably more dangerous than 'jars'....

if you believe the hype...

Didn't know jars were dangerous

jstbcs · 11/11/2005 20:25

oh, tremendously so... what if you drop one and it lands on your foot!!

OP posts:
bunny2 · 11/11/2005 20:27

good for reheating though

bunny2 · 11/11/2005 20:28

sorry, bit behind there. eating and typing at samr time

KristinaM · 11/11/2005 20:37

you see bunny, that's why microwaves are dangerous they encourage typos

I hardly ever type correctly and this is probably because of all the microwaves affecting my brain

muma3 · 15/11/2005 22:36

i use packet baby food but when dd3 moves on a stage in texture then she will be eating same food as us and i will cook all her food but for now i dont have enough time or energy or freezer space to make all different meals for daughter , she gets all different flavours etc from boxed baby food.
i use a microwave for heating bottles and food but not for cooking, shaken properly there shouldnt be any reason to burn baby test it
common sense?

Whats the thing with microwaved food then? I use it for bottles, but fall out with DP regularly on its merits for heating our food (prefer saucepan myself).

Spill the beans!

BonyM · 15/11/2005 23:05

I don't cook in the microwave but always reheat in it. Tbh often feel that maybe I shouldn't but never seem to have time to heat it any other way.

A friend told me recently that you shouldn't use plastic containers in microwave as there is a potential cancer risk. Not sure if there is any truth in this (and reckon there probably isn't) but now only use china bowls just in case.

I think microwaving is supposed to change the chemical composition of food but whether this is actually harmful is debatable I think.

OK, the only issue around microwaves is (I've heard) not to use them to reheat meat in plastic dishes (tupperware etc.) Something about grease and plastic mixing to create dioxins in the food.

oh no... we always have our mcdonalds fresh!
