BLW - is DS getting enough to eat? (or is this a growth spurt?)

Hi all

DS (almost 7mths) is being BLW and so far, so good. He's enjoying playing/chewing/tasting the food and is definitely eating some. However, over the last week he's started taking an enormous amount of milk. He's ff and for the last 3 nights he's taken between 10 and 12oz of milk before bed and then woken for a further 7ish at midnight. I'm now worried that I should be spoonfeeding him at some meals to ensure he's getting the calories. He's really active - is crawling and pulling to standing, so is this just a case of a growth/development spurt and I should just keep the milk intake up until it levels out? TBH i'm not convinced he'd let me spoonfeed him, given our experiences with pre-loaded spoons of yoghurt!

Thanks!

He'll be getting plenty.

Until he's 1 milk should be the main source of calories and nutrition, so if he needs more milk, then just give him more milk :) He'll get more calories from the milk than anything else anyway, so spoon feeding him would put in fewer calories than milk anyway.

Babies are very good at regulating their appetite.

DD went through a couple of weeks of taking two bottles at bedtime, and was still waking several times through the night, but it soon stopped.

What flisspaps said. So long as you're not rushing meal times then he'll have time to eat what he wants - 7 months is still really young don't forget and he's only been eating solids for a short while so if he's having a spurt then it's hardly surprising he looks to milk.

I can't see any reason to change what you're doing if you're happy with it.

Thanks both. He's reverted to normal feeding patterns now so it must have been a growth spurt.
