Did I overload his little tummy? [guilts]

I have been weaning DS for about two weeks, he's 25 weeks. He didn't seem bothered at first so I haven't been trying food every day. He does like baby rice though so he's been having that. This morning he had baby rice (about 7am) then about 4pm I thought I would try him on porridge again as he hadn't really seemed bothered with it last time we tried. This time he loved it and ate the whole thing, maybe 7 little spoonfulls. He has also had his usual breast milk feeds.

I was pleased but then tonight he has had a massive vomit and I am worried I filled him too full and perhaps his little tummy was hurting. He was crying going to sleep so it may have been that he just got upset and was sick from that instead.

What do I do tomorrow? Offer a bit less or carry on?

He's a bit young to be having solid food. Give it a rest for a few weeks. :)

Wouldn't 25 weeks be almost 6 months so really not too young to start weaning.

I thought that, he's 6 months on Tuesday.

There's not a magic switch that goes off at 26 weeks, with balloons, trumpets and confetti - don't worry about starting to wean him at 25 weeks!

See how he goes today, if he wants to carry on eating let him - as soon as he shows you he's full stop. If he's sick again tonight, try a bit less tomorrow :)

Can he pick up and put stuff in his mouth? How about trying him with some finger food?

Jojay · 14/05/2011 09:42

I'd carry on but give him a little bit less.

You could try him with some finger food too - great practice for him but he's unlikely to ingest much at this stage. Maybe half a banana or a wedge of melon.

Well so far so good and he has about the same amount as yesterday but actually fewer breastfeeds.

I wanted to do all finger foods and went straight to it to find DS was getting frustrated and squashing everything in his fist and failing to get stuff in his mouth and then getting fed up with it. Like his appetite was bigger than his feeding skills. Oh and he gags really dramatically and I kept smiling at the gagging so he wouldn't be alarmed but then he would puke up as well. He's a bit of a sicky baby anyway!

I do still give him finger foods though and spoon feed a bit too. He has banana although I help him a bit with it, bread, bits of cheese and cucumber. I want to get more veggies in but he hasn't liked them so far. I gave him coooked carrot sticks and he wasn't really interested. He didn't like the porridge at first either so I know it is just a case of keeping trying.
