Hi, Will be starting weaning soon and just wondered what you think the best high chair is? Want something easy to clean and adjustable height as we eat at breakfast bar and table...thanks!

Feelinghip

It is lush Grin - by far the 'classiest' looking HC I have ever seen.

It looks easy to wipe down, no nasty nooks & crannies! (but I would check if that was the case and make sure it's pretty stain resistent - blackcurrants/tomato based sauces can do maximum damage in minimum time!!)

I like the hydraulic height adjustor.

I like the castor wheels.

I like the easy tray release

If it works and I was convinced about lack of a harness ... I like the harness free aspect - just not sure without seeing one if I trust it.

Downsides:

I can see is that it is like a bar stool in that they will need lifting in & out of it, even when quite big - whereas with the Tripp Trapp they can get up and down from a very early age and it's a good flat seat to sit on as a chair where as the BMS looks quite easy to slip off (for fidgeting toddlers).

Appears to only be one setting for the tray? ('trapping' the baby/child in)

I have watched the video several times and I still don't like the 'no harness' bit - not convinced by his spiel. A harness is supplied but it's not too clear how good it would be if you wanted to use the HC without the tray - so they are actually sitting up at the table/breakfast bar.

A TT will last into adult hood this is much smaller (bum size). My Mum can sit on the TT comfortable (she's about 5' 4" 65kg) so a handly spare seat as well. Lots of kids have them in their rooms when it's no longer needed in the dining room as a desk chair.

Have you read this it's the Mumsnet review. You could alway PM the reviewers if you have any specific questions.

We bought the Phil&Ted Metoo to begin with - it's the one which clamps onto the table, so might suit you as you can use it at all heights of table. However we haveb't used it much as our table is in the living room (no room in the kitchen) and also it only goes on the sides rather than the end of our table, so I found I was having to sit next to DS to feed him which was an awkward angle. It now lives in the car and is v useful to have when we're out and about/at friends' houses etc.

We then used the Bumbo for a bit, sat on the table (I know, I know, very unsafe, but we never ever left him unattended for a moment like that). He's outgrown the bumbo now. We then bought an Antilop, which is great as it lives in the kitchen - so much easier to feed him in there rather than cart all the food through to the living room each time. He seems very comfortable in there and it's easy to clean.

My PILs bought the expensive M&P one to live at their house, but DS doesn't seem terribly comfortable in it. The angle of the seat is a bit too far back - he has to sit himself a bit more upright. Plus it is a PITA to clean.

Just wanted to add that we went with the Brother Max and have been using it for a week or so. So pleased with it DC loves it and it's really easy to clean. Glad we went for it.

I love my Cosatto Noodle - height adjustable,reclines,washable/removable tray and tray insert/plastic insert. It has the plastic bit between her legs so she can't shuffle down/ get out before you have the straps done. It has never tipped, it is foldable but I leave it out as it looks cool and the red matches my kitchen. I got it for 70 quid.

mybabywakesupsinging · 18/06/2011 22:31

Antilop.
All my dc have wanted to be in a "proper" chair asap, so the longevity of the tripp trapp etc would be wasted unless I sat in it myself.
They need to be able to sit (not balance, but sit comfortably) for the antilop - ikea do a polystyrene very ugly seat (multicoloured thingy) with tray for £5 which would be useful if baby isn't quite ready to sit unsupported. V. useful for carrying round the house to stick dd in as it weighs nothing. She sits in it while i hang the washing up...

A friend's got a high chair/bar stool from Ikea; wood finish with arms and backrest, no table- look quite nice; said they cost around 30quid each. They come right up to the dining table and are sturdy enough even for an adult to perch on. Trouble is I can't find anything like that on the Ikea website. Any ideas?

MooM00 · 06/07/2011 13:51

this?

titilola · 07/07/2011 16:03

No, i'm afraid. The legs don't splay out quite as much and there is no bar going across. Thanks for the suggestion though. It seems Ikea don't do my friend's anymore and i can't find it anywhere else.

nocake · 07/07/2011 16:16

I'll throw in another suggestion, although it is pricey. The Baby Bjorn Appetite. It has no nooks and crannies for food to get stuck in and has no straps to get mucky. Unfortunately it isn't height adjustable but does fold up, which sold it for us as we have a tiny house.

tigermummy35 · 15/07/2011 11:26

We have the Graco Duo Diner, the seat bit can be taken off the legs and strapped to a normal chair as well. 6 height settings and the seat reclines. The best thing about it, is the tray comes in 2 peices, so you can remove the feeding tray and leave the bottom part with toys on when DC has finished playing with their food eating :)

Ikea Antilop! I bought it after reading recommendations on Mumsnet, and so glad I did. It's soooo easy to clean, DD is comfy in it (admittedly, we bought a padded cushion from Mothercare and put towels behind her to start with as she was sooo teeny), the price is brilliant, and yes, you can collapse it for travelling or whatever if you need to. It's also fairly compact, and it has a good (removable) tray. Oh, and she can't fall out!

breatheslowly · 25/07/2011 22:09

We have:

Baby Dan - like a Tripp Trapp, only cheaper. I wanted DD to be able to eat at the table with us, but the wooden bit at the front is the same height as our table, so this doesn't quite work. Looks quite nice, easy to clean.

Bloom Fresco (the Bloom Loft would reach a breakfast bar). My parents gave this to us. It is truely awful. Hard to clean, DD looks uncomfortable. Far too many bits and pieces. It does roll, but is incredibly heavy. It is stupidly expensive. Going on ebay soon.

Ikea Antilop - bought last week after trying it in a couple of places. Absolutely superb. DD is very comfortable in it. By far the easiest to clean. The tray is great and also removable if you want to have your baby at the table with you. It is very portable as the legs come off. I wish we had bought this first. Incredible value and practicality.

Have also tried a Mama's and Papa's folding high chair and noticed that there was nothing to stop DD from falling out before the crotch strap was done up - I would avoid highchairs like this.
