These things I'm dead pleased I tried, possibly not ground breaking but just in case it helps anyone, I thought I'd post something helpful as normally I'm just full of questions...

  1. German rye bread toasted (I always have to toast this stuff twice or it breaks and doesn't taste so nice) with u/s butter. Holds its shape great when in soldiers well enough to take out instead of those very expensive biscuits. Also cheap in lidl and aldi (about half price of health food store) and very simple ingredients (basically rye and water IIRC)
  1. Quinoa, a grain my mum is evangelical about, don't know tons about it but higher in protein than others I think and nice bit of fibre, goes to a fantastic consistency when cooked and I'm mashing it up with a fruits and veg and its going down a treat.
  1. Cut the end off a banana , cover, take a spoon and voila an out and about cheap food, when you scoop out little slithers it has its own its own 'cone' holder (the skin I mean)

I'm new to this and probably its not news to many of you but just in case...!

Crumpets.

Probably not all that healthy (poss a bit salty?) but squashy and easy to hold onto, soft enough to chew with no teeth but doesn't crumble up like bread. Also can be spread with puree / cream cheese / whatever and hold quite a lot because of the holes.

Also, it gives me an excuse to eat crumpets Grin

When they're a bit older - pitta pizzas. Cut a wholemeal pitta in half, spread with tomato puree (think you can get reduced salt/sugar kind) & sprinkle with cheese. Melt in microwave or under grill, cut into strips & allow to cool.
