Was I right to fish a bit of raw carrot out of dd mouth or should I chill?

I'm doing a mix of finger foods and puree's. Its been a month now and going well. DD is 7 months

Anyway the raw carrot was whole and for the teething, she managed to chip a chunk off with her one tooth and I saw her moving it around her mouth and panicked thinking; choking alert!!! I fished it out and am reconsidering raw carrot teething soloutions

Am I being ridiculous? I am known for being the stressy sort :S

I don't know, I am fairly relaxed about the BLW (2nd child) but I have still fished a few stray pieces of carrot and cucumber out (as well as paper and cardboard Blush). I expect a small bit of carrot is likely to make her gag rather than choke as it is probably quite small, but you have to feel comfortable.

Yes. You were right to. You are not being ridiculous.

Mine are long past the weaning/teething stage, but I recently heard a really good idea for teething chews - rip up a muslin cloth and soak it in chamomile tea. Then stick it in a plastic bag the freezer for a bit to get it really nice and cold. The cloth can be harmlessly sucked/chewed without danger as it is not small enough to be a choking hazard.

I also agree with Bumperlicioso - you have to feel comfortable.

Thanks both. lovelybertha would I roll these up for her to hold? Sorry I'm a rather clueless first time mum

I dont know really - I've never seen it done, just heard someone talking about it the other day. I reckon you go with pieces about the size of washcloths, so they're easy to keep hold of - and you just let them do what they want with it. I think if you handed a baby with teethy gums a cold damp cloth they would automatically shove it in and get chewing!

of course thanks LBertha. I feel a bit thick now!
