I started weaning dd 3 weekends ago at 25.5 wks. She seems totally unimpressed with food if you ask me. Its all been home prepared. At nursery she takes 4-5 baby spoons of the stuff, max and the last 2 wkends have been a damp squib for me. She spat out even mushy banana - projectile stylee at me. Anyone else has this? Any ideas when she will start to find food fun?

oh good. never done this before and only have rels who thought i should have been giving her babyrice in a bottle at 12 wks. so not likely to ask them for advice. weaning so far doesn't impress me either.

If she's not impressed by it, don't stress over it. It's not "food" at this age, it's tastes.

Let her grab (appropriate) bits off your plate, or give her a few bits of steamed veg to play with in the highchair - she'll pick it up and smoosh it round a bit, or drop it over the side - some might even go in her mouth(!) - but she'll be learning about texture and that that funny thing big people do three times a day tastes rather nice, actually.

I started DS2 at 25.5 weeks, and he would only tolerate mush if it had protein in it, or spices (I did some stewed beef/lamb stuff, with veg, and that was fine. Also a red dahl). Otherwise, no go. Even sweet purees were not acceptable.

But after a few weeks, he got the knack of finger foods, and hasn't looked back. Even now (13 months), spoon-feeding him feels weird, like spoon-feeding DH. (He will toleate it now, though, as long as I know he's got veto powers. I'm too lazy about mess to let him use muesli as finger food.)

that's a nice idea to try NQC. I love spice and she may have a taste for it thru milk. the red dahl idea and beef stew will try soon as I am making some stew this week.

I guess I was thinking that just because they are weaned later they would develop a taste for things faster b/c of age. I am just learning what is normal for her.

thanks everyone. any other ideas welcomed.

It really does take a while for them to get used to eating. DS2 took about a month before he was really taking food, by which point I had given up on purees, and he was eating properly, although not taking much.

They do generally like spices. A bit of roasted garlic is always a nice addition. And of course, at your DD's age, you can give her pretty much anything, if you don't have allergy concerns.

i'm making beef stew tonight. guess what dd is having tomorrow! I am a bit worried about milk allergy at the moment but other than that, I will go ahead with most anything. (gets a test for milk on the 17th.) Thanks NQC.
