Feeding suddenly really stressful

Up until a few days ago DS (6 months) was a really good eater, he would happily eat anything put in front of him and still have his milk but suddenly it's a struggle getting him to have his bottle without him getting upset and throwing a tantrum. He's also gone off any savoury food the only thing he'll eat with any enthusiasm is pudding.

I don't understand whats changed i'm starting to think he doesn't like my cooking because he seems to be able to eat jars and pouches with no problem. I started to make and give him food thats more textured which he loved at first but has really gone off. Am I expecting too much? What can I do? I feel like we've suddenly gone backwards.

what is your rountine for ds, i'm having the same problem with my ds, hes 5 months, breakfast and milk feed is such a muddle you would think he'd be hungry after going all night! maybe he's natrually reducing the amount of milk he needs and maybe he now isn't to keen on the texture? give me an idea of your routine and i'll see if i can help :)

Thanks for replying, at the moment his routine is:
8:30 breakfast (baby cereal normally)
10:30 milk
12:30 lunch
2:30 milk
4:30 tea
6:30 milk
8-8:30 milk

He normally has between 5 and 7oz in his bottles but I think he's going to drop the 6:30 one soon, he'll only have a few oz from that one. To compensate we put 1-2oz formula in with his food so he pretty much always has a good 20oz in the day.

We were giving him a main and a pudding at lunch and tea which I don't think was helping so today i've just been giving him savoury food to try and get him back into it. The bizarre thing is that he's fine with finger foods its just textured food thats the problem IYSWIM?

perhaps just give him finger foods then?

jazzandh · 04/05/2011 20:44

Is he teething? DS1 used to do this just before he popped a tooth! He would only eat greek yoghurt.

pinkhyena · 04/05/2011 20:47

Greek yoghurt? Thats specific lol!

He is dribbling like anything so you could be right I just don't know why its the textured food specifically that he's gone off. Have bought some ashton and parsons teething powder so hopefully that'll help him a bit.

The only thing with just giving finger foods is that i'm worried it won't fill him up because as i'm sure you lovely ladies have experienced, a lot of it ends up on the floor or used as an interesting new type of face mask.

We are doing blw so aren't so much worried about quantity so long as he still gets enough milk. I agree with the face mask thing tho :) In just a couple of weeks DS has got so much better with managing things tho, and plenty of lumpy and smooth stuff can be spread on rice cakes/toast/pitta etc. Worth a try?
