Hi
Does a baby need teeth to have finger foods?
My DD is 7 months and now moving on from smooth purees and wanted to be a little bit more adventurous!

Nope. Went straight to normal food, whatever we were having at 6 months, no purees at all. DD had no teeth until a year old. They just use their gums.

They chew with there gums. DD is 17 months old and only has 8 front teeth but eats everything from chunks of meat to apple.

mousymouse · 03/05/2011 13:04

no, they can chew (soft) foods just as well with the gums. might even help with the teething.

thanks showofhands! This is my second child but cant remember what I did first time round! Grin

Think I question it all too much and should just go for it!

Yeah. Cheese, toast, bread sticks, pear, strips of chicken.

Sorry to barge in Blush but I'm starting this with DS next week and can't stop worrying that he'll choke - I'm being neurotic aren't I? He won't choke on toast?

Sorry again

mousymouse · 03/05/2011 19:03

he will (most probably) not choke but he wil gag.
part of learning to chew and swallow.

AbiAbi · 03/05/2011 20:21

Yes I suppose it's all just part of the learning process Smile

Thank you
