dd2 is 26weeks
we have been weaning for a fortnight. we've been offering mashed foods on a spoon, and finger foods too, usually some of each at lunch and dinner.

basically, although dd2 opens wide for a spoon, and willingly chews and sucks on finger food, she grizzles, shouts, or downright screams throughout the whole process. any ideas on this one?

Is she hungry? Give her some milk before the meal so she is full and can play with her food without needing it IYSWIM...

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 27/04/2011 17:26

we give her milk within an hour of offering food, to ensure she's not ravenous. and she calms down once rescued from the high chair, so i'm fairly confident it's not that she's crying in hunger....

maybe she just isn't ready to wean yet.

i'd just maybe offer her a few finger foods to play with

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 27/04/2011 17:36

we aren't pushing food on her - far from it. this evening she had a couple of sugar snap peas, and 2 fingers of french bread on her tray to play with. she had a good chew on each while grizzling. i offered her a couple of spoons of mased cassoulet which she ate, grizzling between mouthful.

no, wasn't suggesting you were. but if she is unhappy/grizzling then tbh i'd just stop for a bit

OneLittleHopper · 27/04/2011 19:25

Maybe a bit of a long shot, but is she comfortable in her highchair? We started out with a Cosatto one but DS (7mo) got very restless in it and refused to stay in it for long - I think the harness restricted his movement. So we bought an Antilop instead and he will happily sit in it and eat for hours!

Or may be teething?

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 27/04/2011 20:45

onehopper, that's a thought...i might try and feed her in the bumbo and see how she fares.

Hi Charlotte, Our DD's are exactly mirroring each other yet again!( I was Giddyup). We started weaning DD ealy as she would cry and grab for our food. She now shouts and screams like mad thing when we feed her. It is like she can't get enough. She doesn't have the dexterity to get much food in her mouth yet and can't wait for the spoon to be loaded quick enough. She then suddenly has had enough and turns her face away. DP also thinks maybe teething kicks in sometimes when she eats as she is always pulling on and off my boobs and bottles.

We are currently feeding in her Bumbo as have no time to get to Ikea for an Antillop at the moment. If DP doesn't find time too I will threaten to buy a Tripp Trapp with every accessory under the sun and hopefully a nice trip round IKEA will seem like the lesser of two evils for him! Smile

oh no mavis - it's a nightmare isn't it? sorry to hear your dd is the same
dd1 was a dream to wean so I've not really been prepared for all this palaver Grin

I am hoping it is just frustrstion on her part and that as soon as her body catches up with her greedy little mind all will be well!

DialsMavis · 28/04/2011 09:38

oh goodness, I am never using DPs computer again. My sausage hands don't work on his sleek mac keyboard and he has no chrome to check my mistakes [csmile]
