well, maybe she is not a baby anymore....my one year old eats like a horse. she eats anything and everything i give her. she gets very impatient when she is hungry and screams if the food finishes and she wants more..

so far I have been just letting her have what she wants ( its all home cooked healthy food)

but today the health visitor said I can over feed her and its not good for when she is older...

so what do i do? I thought chunky babies were healthy. how much is too much for a 12 month old? do i let her scream the house down when she is still hungry?

Is she drinking enough? Has she been having milk first and then solids for the last 6 months?

If a child is self-feeding and well hydrated then generally they should be able to regulate their own appetites.

At 12 months they're going through massive developmental changes and that takes calories. Is she a healthy weight? In proportion? Do you still give milk?

Is the HV concerned about her weight, or just her eating patterns? And does your DD get plenty of exercise?

I wouldn't be worried about a one year old eating lots as long as it was healthy food, their height/weight was in proportion and they were on the move a lot. IME there are huge differences between toddlers in terms of how much food they seem to need, my friend's DS could eat twice as much as my DD at that age but they were both perfectly healthy.

she still has about 12 oz of milk. (2 x 6oz a day)
her weight has been steady at 50% before solids and around 90% since solids.

she is very active. but I guess the health visitor was concerned about the pattern where she just eats and eats and eats and screams if something finishes and she wants more.

she also drinks lots of water.

maybe she should only have milk before bed. also I have not been able to switch to cows milk yet...am now trying to mix in formula and milk to see if that helps
