How do you know how much food is enough? When to stop?

Hi, I know this post will be irritating to all the mums who are struggling to get their babies to eat so I apologise in advance but I have the reverse question. My 6 month old took to weaning with delight and eats everything offered to her. My problem is that I literally don't know when to stop. She's already on a stage 2 weaning pot and always just carries on eating until I decide she's probably had enough. A whole pear liquidised isn't uncommon. I am worried I'm over-feeding her. She's still taking full milk feeds and will be hungry for her milk and is hungry for the next meal as well. Is it possible to over-feed a baby?

I don't know what a stage 2 weaning pot is either. My 7 mo DD typically eats half a jar of food (so that is about 100g) and might have a fromage frais, but might not finish it. She can get through most of an adult sized rice cracker as a snack. She has dropped one feed per day and often doesn't finish the others. I have no idea if this is typical, but DD has always been good at self regulating, she rarely finishes a 7 oz bottle of milk.

Bear in mind that a liquidised pear doesn't actually have many calories in it, so you wouldn't expect your DD to use it to replace milk. So it probably also depends on what you are feeding her too.

I would try to let her feed herself too - or maybe start a meal spoonfeeding something and then let her have some finger foods to finish. That way she can control her appetite a bit better, plus the finger foods take longer to eat so she might realise she's full or get bored before finishing everything!

My ds is exactly the same by the way - will eat anything in sight! I've encouraged as much self-feeding as possible though as it does slow him down.
