BLW pre-teeth - food ideas please

DS is loving BLW but as he doesn't yet have any teeth I have been rather limited in what I have been giving him. So far he likes breadsticks and rice cakes dipped in purees or dairylea, sticks of banana and cucumber and toast. We've only been doing this for about 2 weeks and I'm already running out of ideas Blush

My 8.5 month old has only just got a tooth but I gave him most things anyway - toast, pasta, pizza, roast veg, steamed veg, raisins, sticks of cheese, mini babybels, strips of meat, fishcakes, falafels. They can manage quite a lot with just gums.

Really? How do you give him meat? I was going to try pasta tonight as it's what we're having. I'm rather fumbling my way through BLW as DS point blank refused a spoon so I offered him a stick of banana instead and he loved it.

DD had no teeth until a year old.

She ate whatever we ate from 6 months. Lack of teeth doesn't make a difference. Their gums are hard enough for them to eat a normal diet.

I agree with Rita. DS didn't get his first tooth until 8.5 months but the lack of teeth never stopped him gumming eating anything.

He ate a lot of mashed potato made into potato cakes with various things in (cheese, small bits of ham, fish, peas, sweetcorn etc). He also loved omelettes and pasta (be warned spag bol requires a major clean up operation !)

Try croissant, french toast, mango, scrambled egg, rice (just plain steamed rice)

So tonight we're having pork chops and pasta - I was going to give DS some of the pasta but I could give him pork chop too? I'm feeling a bit nervous of full-on BLW but as DIY seems to be DS's preferred method of eating I guess I'm going to have to just get on with it. I've ordered a book from the library so when that arrives I'l feel a bit better informed. At the moment everything I know about BLW is courtesy of MN

I just cut meat into strips, like a finger shape, long enough that he can hold it in his fist with some sticking out the top. With beef or pork he'll probably just gum it and suck the juices (though ds is very excited that he can tear little bits off with his one tooth now!) - might be able to gum some bits off chicken or duck though.

Meat's fine but chops and steaks are a bit tough to start with, stewed and roast meat is easier to break down with gums but that's no reason not to let them try a pork chop just for the taste!

I wish my DD didn't have teeth!! She's six months but has had her bottom 2 since 4 months.
BLW which she has taken to amazingly well. BUT she can get stuff in she then can't cope with. eg gave her mango on the skin as suggested because it's easier to pick up. She ate a load of the pulp and there was a bit of skin flapping about. She then bit through this and had a 2 cm piece of skin in her mouth, I've never moved so fast to whip it out!!!

Tried watermelon today, DD loved it and ate a lot!! It's really easy for them to chew it with their gums, and I think all types of melon should work, so OP def try melon next time! And make sure to use a bib as the juice flows down the chin.

Of all the foods we've tried over the last 3 weeks, DD liked this the most and ate a lot of it (as evidenced by her three poos this pm, lol!).
