I have been weaning my 6 month old.....mainly on pots of "plum" food...but i got a right telling off from my health visitor saying that my daughter will not get used to our food that we eat. I do give her bits of all the food we eat also and she eats everything even spicy food. I was raised on Jar food and I am not a picky eater at all. I am so fed up of being dictated to on everything. My husband works shifts and we rarely eat together at all. Please advise.

Ask your health visitor to come over and do all the cooking for you!

I can see where she's coming from, but do what's right for you. My thoughts are that as long as you have a general level of common sense and aren't giving salt and sugar cubes for baby to suck on (too frequently ;) ) then by the age of 21 they're likely to be a realtively rounded eater.

Too much advice out there that sensible people shouldn't have to deal with!

When you do manage to eat together then try to get baby to join you with your food, but other than that do what works for you. (Although going with what i've just said you should ignore my advice!)

If you want to feed her on jars then it's up to you, but they're not very nice! Very bland and watery.

When you do cook for yourself, how about just doing some extra that you can portion up and stick in the freezer?

Are jars the new formula or something??!
I really don't think it's a problem to give jars at all bur as NoWittyName points out, if you get the opportunity to expand DC with integrating your food when possible then it's a good long term plan.....
You just can't approach a topic such as food in absolutes and so do want works for you and your family unit and if that includes Plum (very nice btw) then go for it!

I also started DD on plum and ella's kitchen as was too tired to puree (she was waking loads at night and not napping the day). Now at 8 months she does have a preference for them as she has become used to their blander flavour and smoother texture. HOWEVER this does not apply to finger foods of which she will happily try and eat a huge variety. Also if I want to eat something homemade I give her as much as she'll have (sometime about 5/6 spoons) and then a spoon of ella's kitchen, then back to the home made mush etc - she'll eat this way! Or I mix it up with a bit of yoghurt. So I think your HV could be right to some extent, in that I am finding I need to wean DD off the shop bought stuff, but I wouldn't describe it as a problem, she does eat other food, she just likes the shop stuff!! I don't beat myself up about it - I EBF for six months so I'd already spent six months making her food from scratch! GrinGrinGrin
