Agree, cow's milk fine for cooking/in stuff such as porridge. We never boiled any water, tap water is fine. Agree its only really added salt, whole nuts or pieces of nuts and honey to avoid, but ground nuts and nut butters are fine.

Apples might be better saved for a few weeks in once they've really got the hang of eating solids and use your common sense with anything that might pose a risk to an adult - it's your judgment call on soft boiled eggs, non-pasturised or washed-rind type cheeses, shellfish, etc. And who in Britain eats oily fish or tuna/marlin or shark more than a couple of times a week anyway?!! At 6 months, in terms of what's safe for them to eat, they can basically eat most things you can.

Soft fruits and soft roast vegetables are excellent first foods - i.e. butternut squash. parsnip, sweet potato, courgette, potato (might have to remove the potato skin initially if you cook them in skins). Roast peppers are good a few weeks in - the skin's a bit tough for them to get through at first unless they already have a tooth or two.

We've just started BLW with DS and it's great!

So far I've given him (and he's sucked/gummed and occasionally swallowed!) steamed carrots and courgettes, raw green pepper, cucumber (a big hit esp when teething!), plum, banana, melon, mango, pineapple, kiwi, banana on toast, avocado on toast (also a big hit), pre-loaded spoon of natural yoghurt, porridge fingers. I'm planning to try cheese and egg on the weekend (obv not together!)
