Help what do I feed my baby?!

Ds is nine months , I have very little experience of babies and I'm not sure if we are giving him enough or what we should be feeding him
I want to make my own meals for him ,mil thinks jars are better as they have everything a baby needs in them which I don't really agree with , surely if I make my own fresh meals they will have all the vitamins he needs anyway .
We currently give him
beakfast a bottle and baby porridge

Lunch two small jars and baby juic or water

tea a bottle and a jar

night a seven ounce bottle
he also has little snacks such as fruit , baby crisps etc
is this enough ? Too much? What do all you other mums do?

breakfast bottle and porrage made from bottle milk

lunch two small jars and juic

at 9 months he can have pretty much anything except whole nuts, honey, highly salted foods, etc. Home cooked food would be fine to give and probably a bit more interesting than the gloop you get in jars. There is no need to use baby porridge as normal porridge or ready brek or something like weetabix would be fine too (and cheaper!). You could make them up with full fat cows milk if you wish too as long as the main drink remains formula.

He can have pasta (shapes or spaghetti broken up before cooking), rice, bread/toast, meats, well cooked eggs, fish, veg, fruits, cheese, yoghurt, etc, etc.

I would avoid juice at this age to be honest - water is fine.

My 8 month old's diet today was:

Breastfeed
Breakfast - weetabix with cow's milk and a fromage frais
Breastfeed
Lunch - pitta bread, cheese and tomatoes followed by half a fruit pot
Breastfeed
Snack - rice cake and raisins
Dinner - chicken mince patties and couscous and some grapes
Breastfeed

Generally ds just has what we eat at mealtimes - I cook without salt - plus fromage frais and fruit pots (too lazy to puree fruit, and we don't eat much fruit really so it's easier to buy the little pots).

hi mrswhiskers not much time so apologies if someone else (or you!) already wrote this, but i would really recommend getting an annabel karmel book or getting one from the library.. the new baby and toddler meal planner was recommended to me when i was in your shoes and it was a life saver.

it explains what they can eat and when and give loads of recipes you can make yourself. Jars are fine, but IMO they dont usually taste as nice as stuff you make yourself. i think its about a balance- jars are fine sometimes and food you cook is great too. also, its a real wonderful sense of pride when they polish off something you have made. (I say this as someone who had DS who ate everything i cooked and DD who wouldnt eat much at all til about 1 yr and is still a fussy eater at 21 months.). You dont need to be a great cook- they wont know any different!!

I would not have had a clue without a book!! Good luck!!

Thanks for the great advice , it really helps
have put in a order for the annabel karmel book .
Just have to convince dh that ds isn't going to choke on anything that's nit purée !

What do you eat ? I used to serve up the previous day's roast dinner again on a Monday for ds, mashed and cut up, for example. Pasta dishes are good because you can either blend it all together to whatever texture you need or serve the sauce with whole pieces of pasta he can pick up. Cooked fish(boneless) can be mashed into potato with peas. AK has a website with some of her recipes. I found one of those handblenders really useful.
