Breakfast?

What do you give for breakfast? DS (7m) loves weetabix but I think it's making him a bit constipated. I've started back at work and he's refusing EBM at the CMs, so I am conscious I'd like him to eat a decent breakfast. He likes toast and those porridge fingers you can make but not as much goes in as when I feed him weetabix. I tried normal porridge with fruit in this am and he was so so about it.

I need inspiration!

Readybrek with full fat milk / pinch of cinnamon in / banana

oh.... I just started a breakfast thread at the same time!! I'll watch here too.

MamaChocoholic · 10/04/2011 21:15

yes, watching with interest here too. have realised that toast every day is perhaps heading towards higher salt than I would like (or at least using up too much of a day's limit before 9am). we do blw and need something very lazy easy to give the dts, that can be made whilst getting ds1 ready for nursery etc.

what are "porridge fingers" and what do other lazy blw-ers do for breakfast?

Cosmosis · 11/04/2011 08:52

porridge fingers are great! mix equal oats and milk and leave to soak, then press in to a flat bowl or tub (I use a tupperware tub) and cook in microwave for 2 mins. Cut into fingers and serve cold. I add in some grated apple as well to make them a bit more tasty. Ds loves them but they are messy!

baby familia museli goes down well with my 7mo - it is quite hard to find though. it is a sort of museli porridge, and i usually add a bit of mashed banana or apple puree

ChocolateEggyrolls · 13/04/2011 22:48

I often mix greek yoghurt in with weetabix/porridge/ with a bit of puree too. Greek yoghurt seems to have the desired affect for ds!

just wanted to say, was reading this whilst DS was napping and as I had 5 mins, thought I'd make some of those porridge fingers for breakfast tomorrow-they smell delicious 9added grated apple) can't wait to try him with them!

SolarPanel · 15/04/2011 13:47

Cereals they can pick up like Shreddies are fun :) Porridge is good too.

MissRedIndie · 16/04/2011 15:14

Re the porridge fingers, do you have to make fresh each morning? Or can one batch last a couple of days??

Leviathan · 16/04/2011 20:19

hi, is it ok to give babies (ds 6mo) adult porridge? we don't add salt or anything - just oats and water. He's tasted it and seems to like it but my mum wasn't sure if we're meant to try baby porridge first?

SolarPanel · 16/04/2011 20:38

Adult porridge is fine :)

Leviathan · 16/04/2011 22:39

cheers, that will be tomorrow's fun then ... today was a choking panic (realise only gagging now) on sweet potato -the tiny bit that didn't end up on't floor!

What about French toast or omlette? The egg has to be thoroughly cooked though.

The HV told me that Weetabix and other high fibre foods take moisture from the body to be digested so it's probably best not to give to a baby too often. I don't know if this is true or not but I'm trying not to give it too often to DD. Bit of a shame as she really liked it although removing dried Weetabix from the table is a bit like trying to shift cement!
