as in low salt/sugar etc?

I used to buy Tesco value years ago as they had the least but can't get cheapest versions in my town.

Anyway I thought people may contribute to a definitive list?

Bog standard Porridge. Make it very thick so they can pick it up. Mix a little banana into it. Wash it off the walls quick or it sets like concrete. (from bitter experience)

Just the oats?

I used rice crispies and puffed wheat (sugar free) mixed with yoghurt so they stuck together.

Oh yes. Any cheap one will do. You can add savoury flavours too, a dob of peanut butter is good. if you are really going for it, you can make it the night before in the usual way, add an egg to bind, and stick it in a very low overnight. Baked porridge with apple is very nice indeed.

(still sticks to the walls though)

Sorry, yes, just plain porridge oats, like Scotts or any cheap own-make. Not the flavoured stuff.

...very low oven ...

Baby brain gone to mush...

We have Shreddies, just wheat, nothing added. I soak them in a little milk, enough to soften but not enough to mush. DD likes those.

We also do porridge fingers, but she's not as keen on those. Porridge oats, covered in milk the microwaved for one minute. Set in fridge.

raisin wheats, soaked in milk. They're quite small so wouldn't work for beginners but my 7 month old is very keen on them

HarrietJones · 06/04/2011 16:07

Thanks everyone, exactly what I wanted!

DD lines raisin wheats too or wheetabix lightly soaked in milk so it still stays quite solid. Like the porridge it needs to be cleaned up whilst wet though.
