Hi. I'm looking for some ideas for tea for my DS who is just over 6 months (weaned from 5 months). He's is now having homemade puree's with some texture and some with meat - only tried chicken so far.

It seems that breakfast (cereals, fruit and yoghurt etc) and more dinner like lunches (casseroles, stews etc) are quite easy to come up with and make in advance where needed at this stage, but not imaginative lighter, pre-bed teas.

At first, (as per Gina Ford), we were having baby rice + fruit puree's at tea, since then and now we're experimenting, we've done cheesy mash with courgette and scrambled egg with cheese + some pear puree afterwards.

All seems a bit cheese based!!...Suggestions greatly welcomed Smile .......

Hummus on toast
Cheese on toast
Sardines on toast.... you get the picture

I sometimes make a batch of veg stew (whatever veg is going off goes in), with some potato in and a tin of beans or chickpeas, and freeze it in little tubs so I've got something on standby in the freezer.

Oh - sorry, just re-read and seen you're still on purees - try him on some toast? It gets much easier to come up with a meal in 5 minutes when they're onto toast!

Hi

Thanks. Seems all a bit veggy at the moment.. I know that's healthy, but the bulk of the lunches I'm doing are veg with a bit of meat and bread is hard to get in at the mo..

Good suggestions though. thanx

I agree about getting him onto finger foods, much simpler. You can do rice cakes or oatcakes with something spread on them too, or mini pizza made on pitta bread. We tend to do main meal at dinner time and a lighter one at lunch, so I do things like toast, crumpets, pitta pizza, breadsticks, fromage frais, sticks of cheese/babybels, raisins, bananas, rice/oat cakes, baked beans for lunch.

Cous-cous is a really good 5 minute standby too - can serve it with veg puree or any leftover stews from the freezer.

Dd's favourite tea recipes are Gina Ford's corn chowder and Annabel Karmel's courgette and pea souper. Both nice and chunky and make a change from cheese and yoghurt. Lentils always go down well too and they're super-healthy.

I did baby led weaning with the DDs after doing puree with DS. Weaning was so much easier without puree.

At that age my girls had stuff like cheesy toast, scrambled egg, houmous and pitta bread, houmous and crudities, sometimes just strips of chicken or ham and salad cut lengthways. Also they ate tonnes of rice cakes and often dipped them in yoghurt and stuff.

They also liked things like toasted muffins and crumpets with either egg or cheese.

I'm doing blw with dd2 though she is hungry and impatient so I am spoon feeding her a bit to. Tonight we had pasta in veg/tomato sauce from the freezer with a bit of chicken. She wasn't really feeding herself very well so I cut a few bits of pasta up really small and spoon fed her. She also loved jambalaya, which is essentially rice in a spicy tomato sauce with chicken and chorizo. She basically has what we are having which makes it much easier. Sweet potato wedges also went down a treat.

Ooh eggy bread is a good one.

All sound great. Really given me some ideas. Thank you.

I second sweet potato wedges. My kids all loved them!
